so, whos still digging this?

saw skream for the third time about 2 weeks ago, it was kind
of a let down. also im indescribably sick of extremely rough
attitude people seem to put on when listening to it, people
get aggressive, in some circumstances.

in terms of discovering new music, dubstep certainly brought
a few names to my attention that im sure ill keep following:
digital mystikz, goth trad, ital tek, geiom, shackleton,
scorn, king cannibal.

i also skimmed the stuff off, sometimes i listen to benga
(diary of an afro warrio is just great), shackleton, kode9,
ital tek, rarely burial for overdose. it's almost impossible
to find dubstep nights where i live but i probably won't be
there anyways. i believe that its just happening what
someone said in the past, the good ones stay regardless of
the genre, the others.. straight to recycle bin.

i completely agree, i cant even listen to benga, skream and
all that anymore, its just not exciting enough.

they recently started some thing here where i live, there is
four well known dnb djs that completely switched from that
to dubstep, they were the cornerstone of dnb in denmark, now
they are the cornerstone of dubstep. they suck tho and play
exactly the dubstep i despise, but it still beats going to
any other random house gig.

im working on some special nights this summer and trying to
book some foreign names. maybe you should head to denmark.

it would be cool to be at one of the events you're working
at.. in a perfect world =)

most of the producers are either too stoned or they are not
stoned enough and just imitating.
there was such promise about 4 or 5 years ago but it went
all "dubstep". what an embarassing name for a genre! anyone
knows king tubby etc can't be beat. the original
instrumental timbaland sound can't be beat. so trying to
combine the two now (with a splash of rave) is not gonna
work well as it is at the mo. there needs to be a lot more
production skill, if they are gonna sample something it
shouldnt be off an ethnic beats cd and it should have more
oomph, like garage and grime almost did. they either need to
buy an analogue delay and siren or make the tracks less
loopy and more musical with more rhythmic elements so u can
have a rave if u want. if you play all the early zinc and
bingo tracks totally overloaded/distorted you will see one
example of what i mean... give it some balls, like gabba
meets r&b. or some melody, harmony, tempo effects. it's
still a genre waiting to happen. that quite recent old
school dizzy rascal 'wooh yeah' rap track was better than
almost everything so that reinforces my point; please take
it to the next level guys coz it could be great. there were
1 or 2 good releases this year, markone had one on
contagious, just 2 or 3 tracks off benga lp, a recent
shakleton one, but i can't think of many more. the red one
by T++ was alright too. and bass clef. hoo hah. i blame that
radio woman M.A.H. among others for the misdirection

also, spamming your tracks in a thread like this, isnt
proper netiquette.

i almost skipped this when i saw it was 128kbit, listening
to music when you have monitors at that bitrate is just not
enjoyable.

but yea techno animal is justin broderick from godflesh and
someone else. i dont follow their stuff real close but i
like it. it is dark and dubbed out, not exactly like scorn
but kinda.

there is always meat beat manifesto - subliminal sandwich
for a classic listen.

I can't say I care much for dubstep, but everyone would do
well to check out Intex Systems. "Research and Development" is a
fantastic album.

A taste.
