I'm rich

Not in a esoteric kind of way. Some lucky circumstances
made me very wealthy a couple of months ago. I've bought a
lot of music equipment, a new appartment, computer,
furniture, clothes etc. etc. I basically have everything i
need now. I've been keeping it kind of a secret to my
friends kind of (at least how much it actually is).

Now, your job is to either be jealous, or give me some sound
advice for how to spend the money.

The appartment i've bought is sort of an investment, because
it's in this area in Copenhagen that's evolving right now. A
swimming pool can't be done. It's still just an appartment
in the city!

I actually did that as well. I never thought i've been the
person to do that sort of thing, but i actually did. I did
it in microloans, because i felt that was something that
kind of worked.

Stocks, preferably foreign ones (Asian ones seem to be doing
well last I checked, not to be stereotypical or anything.)

And put at least half into savings.

Yeah, i've been checking out these investment type of firms,
and a lot of them are focusing on the asian market. It's not
enough money for me to not work the rest of my life - at
all. But it's a nice sum.

offline swift_jams from big sky on 2008-04-14 19:35 [#02194321]

Well, like I said, at least half of it should be focused on
a good investment of sorts. Savings accounts, stocks, etc.
The rest, you can have fun with. But always make sure you
have a sustainable cushion fund, to fall back in in case
anything comes up.

And as soon as you dip into that, get it back up to what it
was, ASAP.

Also, always paying in cash helps.

Cut any un-necessary expenses.

I read a book about this, about money, my parents read it
too, and since they've read it, they have gotten out of
terrible debt and have a lot saved up, enough to buy a nice
brand new car if they wanted. It only took them about 4
months.

Haha it needed to be remastered so bad. I just read another
book about recording, mixing, and mastering, the way it
should be done.

I wish I had read this years ago. now that I dont have a
computer with sound it pisses me off.

But thats cool! you'll have to keep me updated on that.

Make a world journey and meat all your XLTRONIC friends
personally in the ass.

Dunno what you like, I only listen to detroit techno,
electro and italo and some 70's new-age, so I'm limited in
music recommendations.

Audio wise you could always spend some monies on synths and
drum machines and make all the fanbois jealous.

Ok, well it's pure luck. I bought this appartment in
Copenhagen 2 years ago. While i was living there, somebody
figured out, that the appartments in this particular area
had missed out on some funding that the city of Copenhagen
had been giving out to appartments that needed it. So this
appartment became like, worth many times the worth i payed
for it originally. I moved into another appartment (that i
incedently like better) and made something like 70.000
dollars (that i got on my bank account, after the other
appartment was bought, mind you, pure profit). To make it
all even more hilarious, the rent is much lower in the place
i moved in to.

stocks. Like At&T and old companies. Stocks with the state.
Low interest but secure. She has had to work in ages. Since

I dont know the english term for it, but it translates into
something in the likes of "reneval of the city". Basically,
the city of Copenhagen gives out money to appartments to
renew the place, in the area of toilets, kitchens and
general stuff. The value of the money the government had
given out to my appartment wasn't calculated into the value
of the appartment i bought, and after that was added (after
i moved in) the value of the appartment was much much
higher. The reason the government is giving out this money,
is simply to raise the standards of living in Copenhagen to
this prefixed minimum.

I like the thought of the idea, but animal cruelty is not
high on my list. As i said, if i can give out money to
people that actually put it into something with results, i
will gladly do it. Animal cruelty is just.... well, it's not
like i like it. I despise it... But there are many other
issues out there that are more important to me.

40-50% man - :/

But you do get a lot of free stuff with it, that would
normally be extremely expensive in a very liberal country,
like health care and education.

For examply, my mother got cancer a couple of years back,
and got treated for free, and got a lot of perks after the
disease. My family would have been ruined, if it hadnt been
for this system.

I'm also getting my education in graphic design for nothing
right now. My brother is a master in rhetorics (for free).
No, that's not actually true... I'm getting paid about 1200
dollars a month by the government to actually participate in
taking an education.

So theres pro's and cons... but a relatively unlucky family
like mine, benifits from a system like this a lot.

I'm not saying my countrys system is perfect, by far. I'ts
just pretty good, according to me.

Believe it or not. Taxes in the USA are not much less than
40-50%. For the average Joe. If you are ultra rich you can
get away with paying much less through loop holes. Europe
just seems to spend more wisely and is also more
accountable. You seem to get shit with your taxes. We get a
library card. Paved roads and wars in far off lands.

DirtyPriest, a word of advice from a fellow rich person:

mo money = mo problems.

it's true. a whole different set of things to worry about
as a result of wealth. watch out, because others WILL try
and get a slice... whether it's lawsuits, investments,
personal loans, etc. and it's not always easy to see when
you are being tapped.

i heard some bad things about the housing market in denmark.
something about falling prices. so be a bit weary with your
investments. you've got a lot of money, but it's not THAT
much. congrats btw.
it was some imf document, so it may have been propaganda to
give the impression that the rest of the world will follow
now that the us has its problems. who knows.

Godel: That's the exact thing, it's not like i'm the new
Bill Gates from this. If i had millions, i would just stay
at home and play old SNES game for a year, and then figure
out what to do with my life.

But the weird market in Copenhagen is exactly what gave me
this oppertunity in the first place. The appartment i moved
in, is going to be worth more in the next couple of years,
i'm absolutely certain of that. Theres a lot happening in
the area, like, city renewal, metro system and stuff like
that.

Sclah: It's on Nørrebro, wich is my favourite part of
Copenhagen. It's very lively, lot's of venues and stuff like
that.
