Autechre Live @ Lees Palace (April 12th 2008)

Live digital recording, not soundboard. No messing about.

We all realize whoever gets a soundboard recording first
will be biggest IDM god of the past 3 years right?

We should start a donation site / paypal / wiki thing that
collects all kinds of money to be slipped to the soundguy
for the opportunity to jack into the board.

Brisk. Near IDM god status. So far you win until a
soundboard is posted.

What is up with Toronto and recording Autechre shows? The
2001 Confield recording from Toronto was also amazing.

Great shit.

yea thanks.

I don't know if you guys know or not, but we have a
remastered version of the LA set on WATMM that sounds a
little better than this. Some of the highs are lost in the
remastered version though. Whatever.

You should check my second remastering, posted in
this watmm thread. The highs aren't crippled in that one (not
that they were crippled; but you get the picture); they're
even slightly enhanced in this second version.

Autechre - Live in LA 2008.04.04 (fredd-e's remastering)

Albeit Toronto being a little bit off center and heavy to
the left, as a source material for remastering, I find it to
be a superior recording then the LA show. With some
treatment, this remastered would be better than LA
remastered in the end.

fluorescent grey and I should perhaps do some work then! :)
I let him give it a go first, if he wants to that is.. his
first remastering effort sounded very neat, even though it
lacked the punch and power; but that's where I entered the
tweak zone.. go go go

im being honest here i dont think this Toronto show is
superior maybe the bass came through more clean but just
about everything else sounds worse to my ears. Even if we
did try to clean this up i still dont think it would sound
as good as LA. but again perception is everything and both
recordings sound pretty different from one another. This one
has a lot more of the reverb club room sound, which some
people tend to like. I prefer the closer up recordings.

also anyone else wondering exactly what AE is doing 'live'?
ive listened so far to 4 of their sets on this tour and they
are nearly identical to eachother. A lot less noticeable
variation than in the 2005 untilted tour. Since its so dark
when they play i wasn't able to actually tell what they were
changing or tweaking live. from what im able to tell it
seems like theyve written a 50 minute long 'song' on the
monomachine & machinedrum to automatically play out with
possibly them changing the tempo manually and adding some
glitchy effects on top.

offline Rook from United States on 2008-04-14 15:32 [#02194280]
Points: 179 Status: Lurker

Autechre live includes:
Sean:
Program Machinedrum and monomachine. Press play. Twiddle
knobs to make it sound more glitchy and add some reverb
effects here and there.
Rob:
Program Nord Modular. Press Akai MPC buttons live.

Frankly, with the quality of their live shows, I don't care
what they do. The lights are out. It's about the music. Not
about the performance. And the performance for them is
mostly about the money, not the experience. Even if they
were playing live keyboards, you wouldn't be able to see it
anyway so what's the difference?

I like their musics.

im not faulting AE for wanting to make easy money and not
have to put into too many actual live elements. I personally
would probably do the same thing on a world tour, its
exhausting in and of itself to travel to a new town each day
and have to stay up till fucking 2-3 in the morning in a
smokey loud ass club.

glotch, odds are good the 2001 toronto confield show was
recorded by the same guy...

pasting from the nfo file for the recent toronto recording:

DPS with a new Shiny Boots of Leather production...

Note to nukers and other freaks - source is WAV (16/44.1)
from
digital recorder + external mic from the audience. I don't
think
the "rules" really address the new technology, so I'm
tagging
-WAV-AUD in hopes that confusion is minimal. I hope you
appreciate the increase in sound quality over our older
-MD-AUD recordings!

Autechre. It doesn't get any more DPSish than this...
This was a tight, 1hour long, danceable set of freaked
electro,
with ae's worst pointless noodling tendencies kept to a
bare
minimum. The room was hot, sweaty and dark. Some notes on
concert-going etiquette:

1. doing the interpretive tai-chi robot dance - yes!
2. bringing your 3 day old body odour and chatting with
your
fellow bearded indie-rock buddies all night - no!

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about:
http://music.guardian.co.uk/live/story/0,,2261916,00.html

Sick sick show. You should check out the tour if at all
possible.

the "remastered" versions are no good to my ears. More is

There are soundboards... it's just the bastards that
recorded them won't let go of them.

Either that or they're saying they've got a soundboard to be
more popular amongst the fanboys. dunno.

has anyone any idea what consequences a sound engineer has
for releasing their own recorded soundboard on the
internets, im assuming its a massive legal issue which could
result in a possible sueing,

to me im surprised we dont see more soundboard recordings
showing up on the net,

I don't totally get why Ae would be so against that though.
They've said in interviews they don't mind it happening.

Besides, where the material they play live hasn't actually
been released properly, it's more difficult in court as
there isn't so much evidence in Ae/Warp's favour.
