Royalty Free Music?

I am new here, and I did search for this topic but I
couldn't find anything about it..

Is Aphex Twin music royalty free? That is, can I use it in
my video without being sued by him? I am making a short
film for school that will also be put into various short
film festivals, so I have to have music that I have
permission from the artist to use, or that is royalty free.
So, if Richard D. James has ever stated that it is okay to
use his music or something, I'd really love to know..

Any help would be appreciated!

Really? Did you really just post this?

Buy an album, download it illegally, whatever.

It's not a matter of getting the music..I already have all
of his albums..I just would like to know that if I have
permission to use it in my movie.

stuff like this has been asked before. someone couldn't get
an hold of him through rephlex.

i'd just use it. i don't think it's royalty free, i don't
know if he's said something along those lines

Okay thanks for actually answering my question instead of
being a douche. I know I probably seem really ignorant
because this question was probably asked before but nothing
showed up when i searched for it.

It really doesn't matter. He's not going to sue because he's
a loony cunt anyways.

For that reason he might sue just for fun.

Yeah it doesn't seem like he's the type who would just sue
someone for using his song..anyways it's for a high school
film festival that isn't directly for my profit so I'm
probably just being too cautious.

instead of using music which is questionably legal to use,
find something with a creative commons license and youre all
gravy.

It is illegal to use copyrighted music in film without
permission. If you are just making something for YouTube it
is probably not a big deal, but if you want to enter your
films into festivals it will probably be an issue.

My friend entered a film into a 1 minute film festival, and
the host of the festival was going to make a DVD of all the
films. That was until the DVD manufacturer called and asked
if they had copyright releases for some of the music used
(some people used copyrighted music in their films). Of
course they didn't and the DVDs couldn't be made because the
burning house would be liable.

Given that Mr James' music is released by Warner in the
United Fakes of Amerikkka it would probably be wise to make
enquiries with them.

isnt there also a fair use clause in the dmca?
something along the lines of 50 seconds is ok, but you
really need to research it before doing anything, legal
trouble is a big bitch

and also about youtube.. the site gets millions of
illegal/copyrighted uploads weekly, they /never/ do any
legal followups they just remove it, so as far as that goes
you can safely upload copyrighted material, although expect
to have it removed if the owner sees it and reports it
