Here in Sweden it's 20:00-21:00 CET (central european time). Turn off as much electricity as you can for an hour. That's it. Tell someone you know about it too. Can't hurt. |

My girlfriend brought this up - can someone clarify something for me - would it cost more energy to turn everything off and then back on, then to leave them idling for an hour? |

if you have energy saver or flouro bulbs u should leave them on cos they use most of their energy when switched on if u have incandescent bulbs then u should turn them off |

Interesting question...I remember reading a while go that it costs too much to temporarily reduce energy production in power stations. So, even if there is a temporary reduction in energy requirement, this would mean the carbon footprint of production isn't reduced at all. In terms of cost to yourself, I guess it would depend on what appliances you have running all the time. In general it would be cheaper to have everything turned off. |

Haha, the major "Party 4 U, stupid" party here in Norway (They're called FrP) are holding a "conference" on the man-made global warming (which they think is a sham). Only one single professor is attending, and he's a professor in [drum roll] welding. |
