you would think people would buy a 10000 dollar synth to
make music with it, instead of fart sounds.

That first track is by autechre from one of their gescom

didn't you

Exactly, but all the reason why a synth is -that- big is
because the modules are huge when you only need 5 wires to
be able to play a simple sawtooth wave. So, what to do with
the rest? Hook it all up and make it do sounds and sequences
on it's own !

Yeah I really can't stand that. Looking at the Buchla gear
it can do SO much but pretty much all the demos I've heard
are just "wiiiizzzzzzzzBOINK kong kong kong BZZZZZZT"
instead of some lush auto-IDM shiz. Check LiquidColor's
videos on youtube to see what you can really do with modular
gear.

I have three modules, one of which (filter) isn't working at
the moment. Can't wait to build it up a little.

mostly, these people are collectors, not musicians.

i wish that horrible space echo was on that first sample, it
sounds great otherwise though

hmm I dunno, I'm a member of ModularSynth.net (sad I know
:P) and quite a few musicians have Buchlas. I've seen a few
pretty nice musical things done with them, but really you
could do that with any old modular. Some of the functions
that some of the Buchla modules offer are mindblowing,
especially in a modular context.
