Anybody watched this televisual experience - it's rad, plus
the music is awesome.

In an effort to feel some modicum of cosmic understanding, I
could read 1000 holy books, make 1000 pilgrimages, and pray
1000 times. Or I could listen to Carl Sagan speak for 5
minutes. That's how great he was/is.

yeah i've got the boxed set. Carl's brilliant- he'd be the
best dad in the world.

Compare him with the annoyingly trendy childfaced brian cox
who the bbc seem to have made head of science and it's a sad
state of affairs. LAZY_cox

they could at least wheel out patrick moore.

brian cox is alright. he went to the same uni as me. he had
a choice when he was studying to go touring as the keyboard
player for D-Ream (things can only get better) or stick to
his studies. he chose his studies.

those two things admittedly don't seem from different
worlds. I just prefer these types of have more of a benign
grandfather feel- Brian cox has more of an overeager 1st
year student feel to him although i know he's very
accomplished in his field. I'm just cynical and the bbc have
really dumbed down things like horizon in recent years, over
emphasizing flashy graphics over insight and facts. Cox just
lacks that paternal authority. This guy has it in
spades tho=]

ha ha, yeah. .They mention he's IN A MUSIC BAND in every
single documentary. He appears to be more 'internet 2.0'
which means get the happiest smiliest guy the job because
function is broken in internet 2.0 and its all about fake
positive image instead or something.

When I first saw cosmos (all on youtube) I thought it was
rather hilarious how distinctly sagan pronounciated. It'd be
easy to make a parody of his speaking style but ad hominem
aside, the videos are really excellent/profound.

i like that cosmos actually has slow bits in it. space where
you can actually get lost and daydream about the stuff it's
talking about. hard to do that these days when it's all
exploding dinosaurs and drum and bass tidal waves.

here's the quintessential example of terrible science
programming with peewee herman impressionist
brian greene.

from episode 4:

"The suppression of uncomfortable ideas may be common in
religion or in politics, but it is not the path to
knowledge, and there is no place for it in the endeavor of
science."

the most shocking part was the update when he clarifies
about the death of dinosaurs, it seems that someone has put
makeup on his face to make him look older! haha.. nice one
by the way, even if sometimes i stuck in the language gaps
cos of the 'molecular' subjects.
