is there any nice software, like picasa but for music?

it is not being easy to find them and to organize only using
the fabulous folder interface invented by microsoft.

I haven't used it much, but MediaMonkey has a lot of
features, and it's free. I'm not exactly sure how picasa
works.

You can use iTunes to automatically organize everything
(rename files and folders and move them) based on ID3 tags.
It's a piece of cake.

Speaking of ID3 tags, MusicBrainz Picard just might be the
best program ever! Not exactly for "organizing" though.

i swear by itunes - used to just use folders and such, but
the itunes interface is so simple and lets you access music
any way you wish, i couldnt imagine browsing my library in
any other way.

I hate itunes, i hate it so much. I never can find what i'm
looking for on it, and it always puts my stuff in different
folders. terrible. i just use regular folders and sort my
shit myself, exactly how i want it.

NEVER USE ITUNES!

It organizes your music and their folder structure in a way
that so incredibly inefficient and complicated that no other
software, including yourself will never be able to navigate
through it without being tied down to iTunes.

I highly recommend J River Media Center, which most people
dont realize was the original inspiration for iTunes. Its
also much better than iTunes, it supports pretty much
everything u can think of and organizes your music in the
way that 99% of all other programs do. It also supports
folder.jpg for album covers which makes it absolutely easy
as hell to add art yourself. You have to download a cracked
version from a torrent site tho, since they sell it.

That iTunes "Sorting Artist" update a while back was
terrible. It's a good idea, but they should've given some
notification beforehand and the option to disable it. It
took forever to get my things back in order again; changing
one song at a time, then setting sort fields. But look at
that cover flow, mmm.

ive never understood how people dont understand the itunes
folder structure

iTunesMusic\Artist Name\Album Name\Track Number. Track
Title

So long as you put your ID3 tags in order, i dont see how
the organization can be troublesome

Exactly, man, exactly. Plus, you can batch rename and
update things. And if you want other information, use the
comment tag. Or the composer tag. or the album artist,
etc.

i've yet to find any useful software for organising mp3's.
they all have their flaws or think they know whats best.
you're better off doing it yourself. my mp3's look something
like this

the way i do it is Genre/artist/album/track

I have pretty general genre folders ,like electronic, rock,
hiphop, classical, and then artists under those etc.
works wonders for me..

and i also have special 'group' folders to separate certain
groups like the dnb group sour, and i also have label
folders, both these are under the 'misc' folder.

Every time my HDD is full, I buy a new one with double the
space and make a new folder for mp3s. That's pretty much how
I organise my MP3's heh.

50,000 files later, I think it's time for another HDD.

I use rhythmbox its a decent audio player thing based on
itunes. Its for linux.

I just have all my music saved in /home/david/music
each artist gets a directory and each album gets a sub
directory of the respective artist. Any one off tracks, etc
go in the main artist directory.

I tend to load the whole music directory and stick it on
shuffle.
I've got much more stuff on vinyl and that's organised more
in genres.
The easiest way is to do it yourself then you get it exactly
how you want it.
