in my opinion it is anti-ethical paying for something that
is available for free.

i've bought 1 mp3 from bleep and that was tundra 4 by
squarepusher. if i'm going to buy music i'd rather have a
hard copy.

When music is converted into a digital file, it can be
copied infinitely, therefore it has no value. Putting a
price on a digital file is wrong for that reason.

using the same logic books should be free as well.

it seems trivial to me. paying for a digital file is not
different from paying for a hardcopy. the only difference
perhaps is a romantic one: the need to have some kind of
hard copy. hard copies are so last century. i mean, what is
more important: having the book, or understanding the idea?

both are pretty important. i dont think ideas are more
important than the material world surround us, but is so
21th century to think that way!

also, people still prefer to read a regular book rather than
reading it on screen or printinf it at home. it is not the
same with music, people rather listen to ipods than to
cds...

when your pc/laptop/ipod inevitably breaks where is your
music then?

It is less expensive to buy mp3s, usually $10 usd for a
release and you don't have to wait for mail order and pay
for shipping when best buy doesn't carry it.

As I said before file sharing is good for
rarities/live/b-sides or old shit you don't have on CD
anymore, or if you just want to test drive something and
clips on Amazon aren't cutting it.

But, c'mon, downloading new albums for free and just keeping
them? I mean, I've done it its not like my shit don't
stink, and maybe I justified it with a "oh this is just
until I have money to buy it," but if I really think about
it I know that just oh welling it and not paying up isnt
right.

or you could just think of it as giving the band money for
making music.

this article from wired as well as this one are both
interesting reads on the future of music and business in the
age of p2p.

ever heard of back-ups? external hd, or just burn to a cd.
or even better, just dl it AGAIN (for free)

duh

and what do you do when you lose/break your precious
hard-copy?

another one on hard copy VS digital files: if is a birthday
present i think is pretty sucky giving itunes credits. if
you want to make one happy, give him something to unwrap.

blah, in the future everything will be available in the net,
in the wi-fi, you will get everything in the air. HDs will
be each day less necessary. digital data wins this one.

remind me when your birthday is. because i'll give you a
pizza in a box. is unfolding good too?

So if a buy a CD the only things I should be paying for are
materials and distribution costs. The band/artist shouldn't
receive any money because the digital file on the CD is
infinitly reproducable and has no value. See where Im going
with this..?

would you honestly pay for a download and rip it to a cd?

i wouldn't. i don't need a hard-copy. romantics aching for a
hard-copy may. burning a cd is just one of many options.
but what do YOU do when your honestly bought hard-copy
passes away? buy another one? or just go for the dl-option?
lets be honest here.

i know you're probably going to think i'm lying but i would
buy it again if it was worth it. i've bought drukqs twice
because the first time i thought it was shit and sold it to
a mate and then changed my mind. also rounds by fourtet
twice because i spilt a drink on it.

o, i believe you alright. if it was worth it, i'd buy
another copy myself as well.
but that implies there are times where it's not worth it to
buy a second hard-copy. ok, i think we're getting onto
something here.
