Looking for movies.

For a certain course within mediastudies in which the
keywords seem to be 'pseudo-creativity for morons', I'm
looking for twentyfive movies. In all of these movies the
following motive need to present itself: 'anthropomorphism
of inanimate objects' with the extra condition that they
can't actually come to life - that excludes all the living
elephants, killer & sex dolls and related Disney-stuff.

Right now I've got the following things:

"1) The volleyball Wilson in Cast Away.
2) The main character's wristwatch in Stranger Than Fiction
3) The mannequin dolls in I am Legend.
4) Private Pyle's weapon in Full Metal Jacket.
5) The log lady's log in Twin Peaks.
6) The "adult doll" from Lars and the Real Girl.
7) The refrigerator in Requiem for a Dream.
8) The furnace in the basement in Home Alone."

More suggestions plz!

how about the film 'may' in which some girl kills people and
uses parts of them to sew together and create a significant
other.

That sounds like a great motive/movie! I'm going to download
it right away.

how about the gun made from bones in 'eXistenZ'?

Well, it's not like the bone gun is given a real identity or
is being humanized in another sort of way, right?

i was rather thinking in terms that the gun represents a
part of himself, like a puzzle, that the bone is the innate
violence of man, that he finds it in what he eats and knows
instinctively what to do

Something from "Videodrome" probably? I vaguely recall
scenes you can use from that film.

You can probably use A LOT of Svankmajer's shorts, though
objects generally really come to life in them.

The plant in "Ruka" ("The Hand") by Jiri Trnka.

I'll try to think of more and better ones.

Off the top of my head:

The radiator in Eraserhead.
The monument in 2001: A Space Odyssey.
The mirror (?) in Taxi Driver.

Some great suggestions here, thanks! But concerning the
mirror in Taxi Driver, quite original, but Travis isn't
exactly talking to the mirror itself is he, 8)?

@ QRDL: Ruka is a great political short! I almost forgot
about Svankmajer - what a shame, because his animations are
fantastic. I'll watch some for inspiration (and amusement).

The thing with Cronenberg is that it's hard to draw the
boundary between the real and the hallucinations, so the
question remains: "is the object ACTUALLY coming to life or
is it a hallucination?" In the latter case, I can use it.

I added a questionmark to the mirror.

It might not serve as a good example for your task, but it
certainly symbolizes the skewed self image of the
protagonist in the film. I would even argue that he's not
actually talking to himself in the mirror, but to 'someone
else' (possibly because of schizophrenia).

Note the phrase 'You talkin' to me?'.

I still need about seven movies to complete my list of
greatness, but since I'm stuck - and have until three o'
clock tomorrow afternoon -, any additional help would be
appreciated.

The entire building in that movie where a building has such
an advanced security system that it kills all the people in
it. Can't remember the name of the movie, though... it's a
90s film, I think.

The transplanted eye in "The Eye."

The Raping Computer in "Demon Seed."

that was an x-files episode. but it's possible it could also
have been a movie many times over. the 2001 thing has been
done to death.

what about the can in 'wet hot american summer'?

abnormal genitalia in Dead Ringers by Cronenberg, I always
found them quite fascinating.

You've got a fine list there Henk.

The ring in Lord of The Rings expresses some desires of its
own... but it IS controlled somewhat through Sauron so I
don't know if that counts.

Also you might be able to cheat and use that for 3 movies,
as it's a trilogy ;)
