Suspended Animation.

WTF did I get myself into? I don't know why but I can not
stop listening to this. I want to chop bits and pieces of it
up and make it into a 3 minute song...

anyone else listen to this shit?

i absolutely love fantomas, and pretty much anything mike
patton has had his hands on for that matter.

purists have said that the self-titled and director's cut
albums are superior, but i stand by my opinion that
suspended animation is indeed THE fantomas album.

i don't know if you looked into it or not, but if you
haven't, listen to mr. bungle IMMEDIATELY - it will BLOW
YOUR FUCKING MIND.

yes. imo delirium cordia as well...

..
.

when you've swallowed everything fantomas and bungle, check
out "Secret Chiefs 3" (members of bungle and others sans
Mike Patton). Also "Trevor Dunn's Trio Convulsant"
(Bungle/Fantomas bassist).

rly? imo he's done a lot of good stuff, but his idiotic
narcist personality seems to push himself always to the
front, so the greatness of the other musicians involved
takes a back seat... and in recent years he tends to repeat
himself quite a lot, in a ridiculous way. Too much Patton in
Patton's music. "imo"

directors cut > suspended animation > self titled IMO.

secret chiefs 3 is better than fantomas though, i think.
more diverse, more varied.

* if you can get more varied than the already completely
bonkers fantomas

heh.

i think delirium cordia is my favourite one.

This hierarchy I can except. Not a big fan of the st to be
honest.

Back in the days, fans of pattonesque stuff here used to
listen to Estradasphere. I was the first one to call that
crap. Yes, that was THE critical achievement of my youth.

Trevor Dunn's Trio - very good

i prefer mike patton live because he develops his voice over
time ..the songs just gets better and better...as he puts
far more energy and feeling into a live performance. the way
he sings the words simply love it.

i think he was at his peak of 'traditional' singing on king
for a day. underrated album.

seeing mike patton live was incredible.

peeping tom, even tho the album so definitely hot-or-miss,
was fucking EXCELLENT live. really great stuff, so much
energy in the crowd.

also, i'd forgotten about delerium cordia - another great
album, but honestly i almost have a hard time rating it as
fantomas, its so far different from their other material.

delirium cordia is shite. suspended is very mediocre after
the first two, and i don't consider myself a "purist" at
all. it's just... badly done, i think. tomahawk's latest is
great though, but i think mike patton is stretching himself
too thin over so many projects. glad he's not putting out
that much these days, i hope he returns with something more
well composed.

i saw fnm live a few years ago. the gig was too funny. my
friend and i were only about 15 at the time and when we were
watching the band, some stoner hippy acid guy rested his
head on my mates back, pulled his (own) dick out and pissed
all over his leg. look on my mates face = priceless. he was
terrified.

I've heard much of Patton. the only thing I'm not big on is
when he just makes noises for the sake of making noises and
not to accent the song.

wait, you started the topic, my bad....

im confused now. you dont like it when he just makes noise
for the sake of noise but still like suspended animation??

offline Babaouo from Dolce (Monaco) on 2008-03-06 15:50 [#02182439]

you misinterpretted it. but I did lay a blanket statement.

I like it when it fits. sometimes he just does it because he
can make some noise. often it works well in the song but
sometimes it feels like he had nothing better to do at the
moment but try to take center stage for no great reason.
