I almost fell of the chair the first time I heard this.
This is a perfect opportunity for you to try out those
speakers, that has been gathering dust, while waiting
patiently for this very moment.

Yes, yes, I know, it's unfortunately not the whole tune, and
indeed, you have infact heard of that group before, and yes,
you must get a copy of it, now!

The planets are aligned, what are you waiting for?

Geinoh Yamashirogumi - Ecophony Rinne

Geinoh Yamashirogumi are amazing. We all love their work on
Akira. I do not lie. All hail Shoji Yamashiro!

Didn't do much for me; I prefer different gamelan music, the
fast polyrhythms and the oriental melodies.

do you say it gam-e-lan, ga-me-lan, game-lan or ga-mel-an?

Gah-meh-lan I guess.

Hi Samsicle - things are O.K. I just moved from Aberdeen
back to Huntly so I'm out of work at the moment. I'm
seriously considering becoming a piano teacher, but I'll
need permission from the council to do that from home - I
can easily charge £20 per hour which is useful. Apart from
that, got a Oxygen 49 MIDI keyboard which is fun, though
it's kind of hard to play fast because of the lag :(

How are you?

if your desperate for a couple of milliseconds use
headphones while recording midi. it can help.

I'm good thanks. I decided to have a go at this university
lark and living with 21 tantrum throwing 18/19 year olds has
turned out to be an enlightening experience. I now know who
Mark Ronson is and why he's the 'saviour of music' and why
what I listen to is crap because 'if it was good it'd be at
the top of the charts'. Other than that things are VERY
dull. I found out today I have to be back up at the other
end of the country to sign a single piece of paper at 9am on
Tuesday which means I can't go and see Autechre on Monday
night and have just grudgingly given the ticket to a friend.
How's the sprog? Still kicking and screaming I hope! Does
the council require background checks and that kind of thing
to allow you to teach piano?

I adored the akira soundtrack and always wondered if there's
other works by geinoh yamashirogumi that I could find... but
I never did.

Caitlin is great - very wilful but generally good natured.
Her vocabulary and language usage are amazing! Also, she's
addicted to The Simpsons, and can name almost all the
characters. . . whether that's a good thing or a bad thing
remains to be seen.

Because I would technically be a home business and because
it would make noise, the council'll have to okay it - all I
can do is cross my fingers and hope they say yes.

Here's a link (on the same site) to several of their works,
if you're interested:

Yamashirogumi-index

I'd recommend them all. The "Ecophony Rinne"-CD is
brilliant, as is "Osorezan".

"Geinoh Yamashirogumi (The Yamashiro Art Group) are a
collective of about 200 people working in cultural
anthropology, ethology, molecular biology and other related
fields."

200 people, says it all.

Hi Paul,

How odd that you should mention Huntly; I just recently sent
a letter of inquiry about a possible teaching job at The
Gordon Schools!

Dave and I have been interested in becoming ex-pats in
Scotland for a while now, and have been looking into what it
takes to teach there.

wow that's a weird coincidence! The scenery is nice
here, the people haven't been too bad of late. I'll give you
free piano lessons if they take ya ;)

That'd be neat :) I shall certainly keep you updated...

As for gamelan, I prefer the faster, more polyrhythmic
styles as well. I fell in love with the style that is played
in Lombok and throughout Nusa Tenggara Barat when I visited
there in '95.

Give the tune a listen (if you can find it).

The slow jegog-part at the beginning is soon to be replaced
by some mad gongs/-bells.

The whole tune is about 10 minutes long. Pure delight.
