Good fun. I know a few artists around where I live. Whenever
my friends get new apartments the walls are full of
graffiti, in just days. Especially my friends apartments in
Boston.

How is graffiti not a form of art?
Not in that video, that's just taggingm but i'm talking
about real art, and street stenciling.

sarcasm or not, 1up was right, it is vandalism pure and
simple. there's no fucking art involved in that video, you
show me where the art is? there's no originality, there's no
important statements being made, there's nothing
asthetically pleasing about it, they're just scrawling their
names on walls and making the place look run down and
shitty. those guys need to get a fucking life and grow out
of the 5 year olds mentality of ownership.

offline kid from mum (United Kingdom) on 2008-02-18 10:31 [#02176652]

why don't they go home and get themselves a canvas and try
creating something other than some shitty tag over and over
and over again.

unfortunately all they really care about is their 'rep'

and if we're being honest about it, they're probably not all
that smart neither. probably a bit thick in the head

What is house? I mean, what is Art?! Two questions I'll
never know the answer to. One of my young neighbours goes
out at 3am and tags places and he is expressing himself,
maybe it's not very academic or aesthetically pleasing he
still needs to do it. The video was crap though, the need
to do it is more interesting for me

perpetuate a certain image and put their name to it?

the insecurity of the artist ego is one level to what i
would call a 'proper artist' doing art for what i consider
to be the right reasons, one of which is to explore
creativity in new and inventive ways, to explore the human
condition and exchange ideas through various mediums. the
ego insecurity in the case of the 'real artist' only adds to
the human quality it has that allows people to relate.

this however (to me), seems only concerned with the ego as a
dominant statement, 'this is what i do, here i am, i don't
give a fuck what you think', and frankly i don't see it
going too far beyond this. like i said, 99% of the time you
can't even see what it says and when you can read it, it
usually just says the 'street' name of the vandal, such as
'rush', 'icebitch' and / or 'fuckqueen'

i just want to make sure here. you are aware that i am
talking about just the pens, right?

i can appreciate tags with colour done with spray cans
because they have some visual appeal and often bring life to
dead scenes

for me. the pen tagging just reminds me of school toilet
vandalism done by the thugs who i always fucking hated

God knows! It's nearly 5am here and I'm talking shit for
the fun of it. Tagging originally was/is a territory thing.
It is pretty animal like really. It doesn't need a critique
from bystanders to be authentic. I'm sure anyone here now
could critique your contribution to being alive now and what
you have given so far.

You don't like pens. What have you got Raz0rblade?

what that got me tag on it, then you is sittin on me, AND I
WILL FUCKING CUT YOU'

that's how i feels

those tags are a from of creativity, just as music is. what
they're doing is essentially urban calligraphy. it's pure
form and hardly any function (well perhaps to piss-tag their
territory). i'd rather have those kids express themselves
this way than violence.

got up there.
