Autechre certainly aren't launching any new styles, and there's no innovative music to be heard here

it's funny in a way how predictable some of these sites are..and even funnier how some of them are clueless when it comes to music they can't directly connect to anything they're familiar with.

there is a noticeable presence of eliteism here. ever stop to think their music might not be as good as you think it is?

you guys are so protective, it's funny...
amg is pretty fucking decent for encompassing all that music, it's not super accurate but works really well as a site for getting started with new music. they are pretty diverse in all, i think.

Check their Limp Bizkit section and you'll see they're not all bad. . . but then. . . check their Right Said Fred section and shake your head with wonder.

"The only aspect that prevents Quaristice from seeming open-ended, as a bunch of tracks splayed arbitrarily across a disc, is that it begins and ends with ambient (as in entirely beat-less) pieces; an arc might gradually become apparent, but that would only be the result of increased familiarity with the sequence of tracks."
i just love that these are professionals writing, they have a staff of like 700 and are always hiring. they were searching for people that could review more local acts

It's kind of silly to get offended by a site that rates an album differently from you. The fact is though that allmusic.com is an excellent music database, where you can find info on basically anything you want, music related.

I agree with Funkmaster.
Allmusic is a great resource and I use it a lot. Reviews are simply subjective opinions and I don't care if some guy on allmusic hates my favorite album.
The amount of information on allmusic is quite staggering, actually. I often use it to find similar sounding bands/artists and to look up info on genres and bands. The site has directed me to a lot of great music I otherwise wouldn't have discovered.

it's a good information site, very useful... But maybe it should decide whether it wants to offer objective information, subjective rating or vote-based rating.
A system that gathers all data and presents time lines and song information and so on shouldn't intrude on the data by putting some random star-rating on it... At least IMDB is popular vote based. Discogs, on the other hand, don't make a big deal out of voting. Allmusic seems to go the other way by insisting on offering authorial, editorial opinions side-by-side with database survey.
In the end it's a matter of taste, I guess. I like it as a resource, but as a reviewer it's whimsical. This Quaristice review is OK, as it happens, but that's not the point. Facts and opinions don't mix.
It's like that annoying cashier who insists on commenting on your purchases at the store: "oh, nice cucumber, mister! but do you really need this much sausage? what kind of a sausage fest are you having tonight?"
