Acoustic Blues

Are there any fans of the ol' time blues here? I'm not a
huge fan, but I much prefer it to the blues of electric, and
everybody got the blues huh. I've found the crackly blues
to be the best. So if you enjoy Basic Channel, you're gonna
love this stuff. Here we go!..

Tommy Johnson and Bo-Weavil Jackson are some of the best in
the business, so keep a look out for them. If you know
"What" I am talking about, then you'll surely know where to
find them. They got these voices, you see, and they could
skin a cat! Tin pan sounds of the soul make their way into
every living room. See that water running down the
drive-way? That aint water, that's tears!

And Blind Willie Johnson? Well he's the one who started it
all for me. Mentioned to a co-worker that I liked Tom
Waits. Next thing you know, I'm being handed some burnt CDs
with R. Crumb drawings pressed onto them. I knew I was
going to like this and I started lickin my lips. Now I just
can't get enough! Electric-sky slide guitar slinging
through the muddiest voice you're ever gonna hear this side
of the ground. And right when you couldn't think it could
get any worse, his wife comes in to sing like a bird. It
almost makes me wanna cry.

For everyday enjoyment, I like to listen to Mississippi John
Hurt and Elizabeth Cotton. They're the next generation, I
believe, but just as good. Autechre could learn a thing or
two from these guys..

"Future Blues" by Willie Brown has some badass shredding.

i guess the stuff i like is considered "pre-war blues"
