Sorry if this has been posted about before but, i want to invest in a decent sound interface for my computers...both MAC & PC. I haven't decided which system i want to go with yet...
I've heard good...well better things about MOTU over protools. And from what i see their interfaces have what i'm looking for - XLR inputs firewire connectivity...etc. I'm just looking for opinions...I just wonder if i'm locked in like protools with their hardware...is there a stupid USB key etc. what you use and how it works out for you...

whatever pc/moterboard your runnig do a search to seee what other audio users have installed....some gear is glitchy with certain motherboards ect... i had some right ol moments with sound cards/latency glitches n stufff....errrgg ... my fav is my emu 1616m..( not firewire) and motu 2408 for multitrack recording ...24trk with pre amps from a 2 x tascam interfaces.
oh yeh ...try and find an interface that has internal patching like the patchmix on emu....maybe motu has that now?
helps you send sound around n about internaly.....from say tracktor dj to cubase.....and allows you to use lots of stand alones ....and route them about the place.....how did i live without it?? its worth just buying an emu 0404 pci card for 50 quid just for that..
RME sound interfaces are worth 'an' major look and firewire.
good luck
