i wonder if anybody stores their samples in one external HD only. ive bought one, and if on one side i save a lot of internal drive space, on the other linking all the files outside the laptop will force me bring the HD with me everytime i need to open a project. is that good/not? thx for any input. and sry for my english.

In terms of speed it's fine with the right connection, I do it for home, however drop it and there’s always a high chances are you'll have a dead HDD (even for desk height), and not the fun software recovery kind of dead. So it's not really a good idea unless you have a mirror back up at home. Too many risky factors when taking it on the road.

well an external is just as risky as carrying a laptop (or desktop for the matter) around - its just some people are idiots and thing because its small and portable is also durable.
personally, id get a bigger internal drive for samples and things and use the external for pretty much everything else (i.e. ive got a 250 gig internal with all my music/programs, a 500 gig backup drive, and two 160 gig externals for tv shows and movies and the stuff). mostly id say do this for the speed cuz getting stuck with long load times in daw's sucks, and not having to carry your external everywhere is a plus.

check the news archive on my website. I bought this 500 gig external hd from fuckershop for 130$ on sale. Brought it home. Put EVERYTHING on it. After copying the last cd it coincidently broke.
Ass pains.

the Porche series drives are known for troubles - are you shure it's the disc that's dead, dead psu's are also common in the Porche series....?

just for people's information, i bought a maxtor external about three and a half years ago and it has not failed yet, so there's a vouch for a better manufaturer than this apparent porche shit.
