Well yes, I'd love to listen to hours of horrible screeching
and reverb.

ambient brings what the world needs.. it brings peace,
contemplation, appreciation of what is.. it's a way to say
'it was what it is, but it might not be any more', a kind of
nostalgic hope that it is after all.

some ambients I like:

Tim Hecker - haunt me, haunt me do it again
stars of the lid - the tired sounds of stars of the lid
biosphere - dropsond
jan jelinek - jazz loop finding records
kit clayton - Nek Sanalet
deadbeat
fennesz
sutemos - flow.ers (you can download that for free on the
sutemos website)
pop ambient (a compilation that is released every year.
basicly all of them are good)
tetsu inoue - organic cloud

Really? I donwloaded tired sounds from eMusic and found it
flaccid and dull. Will have to give it another listen.

The strange thing about good ambient music for me is that it
seems to have a timeless quality, which seems to trascend
trends. Long before dubstep came along and no doubt after it
fades away too, i'll still be listening to Rhubarb,
Isolation Part 1, Unfamiliar Wind (Leeks Hills), etc....

Thats not to say its better or worse than any other genre,
just that it has its place (and a big one at that) in my
listening habits.

Isolation is heads over most ambient.

User reviews of SAW2 from discogs

It's funny out of all his albums, this is the one which gets
the most reviews and positive feedback. Theres an undeniable
special quality about good ambient music that just touches
people more than any other electronic genre for me.

it would be better if you downloaded the last one, from last
year i think..but even more so you should check out lichens
and /or white rainbow i think...their latest ones on kranky.

there is probably only a handful of QUALITY "ambient"
albums... most of it is gayer than a bag of dicks.

hahaha. One day, you'll hopefully grow up and realise that
the best genre is different. No single genre is "the best",
but a combination of different music is always the best.
