Gas Mille Plateaux releases reissued

the four albums will be reissued on cd in a box set with
two vinyls. don't know what's on the vinyl yet, but
hopefully it will be the first ep and oktember.

no word yet if the two vinyl only tracks from koenigsforst
will be included.

if you're not familiar, it's unique german techno that
gradually melted into experimental ambient sound.

all of these records have been out of print for years, they
are all highly recommended by people you trust more than
me.

I own all the albums so I probably won't buy this, but I
will say GAS has to be some of the greatest music of ever. I
want new material.

you're probably already aware of it, but there's a gas remix
on markus guentner's "regensburg" remix 12" on kompakt that
is well worth hearing. now that i think about it, that 12"
has been out for a long time, but i haven't seen it
mentioned around here (aside from me occasionally
championing markus guentner, especially his kompakt album
"in moll").

i haven't heard the vinyl only tracks or any of oktember, so
there's a few new things to look forward to. i'm not
looking forward to paying extra to own shit i already have,
but 98% of gas is totally essential so i'm sure i'll buy it
anyway.

This is great news. I'm not sure if I'll buy the thing (I
guess it depends how much it costs...), since I already have
three of the albums, but I'm hoping for an increase in
people dumping their copies on eBay and elsewhere, so I can
pick up a relatively cheap copy of Königsforst.

markus guentner is really good, but i must say i'm not keen
on his non-ambient/techno stuff (namely the last album and
any other minimal excursions he does). 1981 is my favourite.

Oh yes! I'm buying this. Gas is brilliant. I've downloaded
all the mp3s from kompaktmp3 but I'd much rather own
something real. you know.

Where did you get your info from?

the box set is called "nah und fern," and comes out in may.

also in may, raster noton apparently is releasing a book of
graphic design by wolfgang voigt (who is gas) that will
include a cd with the gas performance from the "20 minutes"
series that came out on raster noton as well as unreleased
gas tracks.

still don't know what's on the box set vinyl, though...

Might as well be called "Meh and Nah" for all the likelyhood
I'll miss this opportunity to not buy these fucking Mille
Plateaux records, again.

the four reissued cds are sold separately from the 2 vinyls.
the vinyls have one track each from the second, third, and
fourth albums, and supposedly an unreleased track. they are
supposedly longer versions of the originals. the four cds
are essentially the same as the original albums, except
there has apparently been some additional tweaking. the
vinyls are supposedly limited, but i don't know how many
were actually pressed.

unfortunately, modern and oktember are not included, as far
as i know.

the vinyls are traveling towards me as we speak.

why isnt there any version of Modern around that doesnt skip

the kompakt shop mp3s don't skip?

i still wonder why they don't have oktember up to buy as
mp3s though! fair enough if you couldn't fit them on the
box, but why the modern 12" and not oktember?!

there is also a vinyl only track from "koenigsforst" lp that
they don't offer as an mp3. here's hoping they remedy
this...

actually there's two vinyl-only tracks from konigsforst...
there's that bouncy uptempo one that goes between two
chords. and the other other one sort of sounds like a
different variation of #2 and #4 with those backwards guitar
notes.

so there's a track on the cd that's not on the vinyl? there
are seven tracks on the vinyl, and six tracks on the cd.

i've only heard the cd version of that album...

offline leafs on 2008-06-09 21:49 [#02214829]

no, i'm 98% sure (as i've only got mp3s, not the vinyl
itself), that there are TWO extra tracks on the vinyl
version of konigsforst. so 8 tracks in total.

and that the CD version has 6 tracks but has a longer
version of the last track (track 6 - 10 minutes instead of 7
minutes on the vinyl or whatever).

according to discogs, there are 7 tracks on the vinyl.

Königsforst

i'll probably never hear the vinyl either, though, unless
they reissue it...

yeah, like i said - i'm not 100% sure. everything seems to
be differently labeled everywhere. all i know is that i've
got a 6:06 and a 7:18 track that are apparently from the
vinyl which AREN'T on konigsforst or anything else. so maybe
the vinyl misses one of the CD tracks to make it 7 tracks or
something? i have no idea.

it's the same with oktember. i've got two tracks which i
assume are the correct ones as they're both different (but
almost like different versions of the same thing) and not on
any other gas release. but also i've read that it actually
the first track from konigsforst (the 9:43) on side a, and
then an unreleased song on side b. then i've seen it
mislabelled with those raster noton 20' to 2000 tracks as
the bside.

phew!

which is another reason why it's a shame this stuff isn't
included in the box - or at least as mp3s at kompakt. i
wonder, does anyone here have vinyl copies of konigsforst
and oktember and could check this for us?

on Konigsforst and it sounds great.

if you're not interested in the book, you can also buy the
unreleased tracks (that come with the book on a cd) in flac
or mp3.
