If a special cd were to come out by your favorite group /
person and had the choice to download the music or to buy
the official copy, what would you do?

download it, it's my criminaly negligent nature, i'd work on
stopping- but it's helped me quit smoking

but i'd still buy the cd if i were u, cos 4 some reason it
feels more official and satisfying having the actual copy in
your hot little hands :)

CD's are better sound quality too
(uh.. that is, unless u download it in .wav format.. which i
highly doubt)
most mp3s are like 128kbs.. cds are noticably better
sounding

....just another factor to consider..

also, some artists don't like mp3s... (ie: boards of
canada)... so i'm planning on buying MHTRTC and Geogaddi as
soon as i have some money
they are good artists and they deserve the money... and they
probably aren't filthy rich, so i feel i should pay them
back for making such great music
now, if they said they dont care about mp3s.. then that
would be a different story

Good point AMinal. Supporting groups like this is great.
And you're not supporting them if you dl their music. I
don't find it to be right at all...and I would rather
purchase than dl.

I always want the official copies, i have over 4 gigs of
mp3s but i still want the official copies, unfortuanately i
can't afford even a small amount of what i'd like to have,
so i only buy a few cds and yes i'll buy Jean Michel Jarre's
next album as soon as it comes out and Aphex Twin's too, i
already bought Drukqs

idunno, if and when i have money again there are a lot of
cds i'll buy, but not nearly as many as to cover up all the
mp3's i've dled- a lot of them i wouldn't consider worth it

I'd buy it. I always believe in supporting your favorite
artists. plus i like having the liner notes and stuff.
I'll download mp3s of an artist i'd be ashamed to buy in a
store, or to "preview" a release before i commit to it, if
it's artist i'm not a huge fan of.

support the band

I always buy cds... I'm not a huge MP3 fan really... I just
download specific songs I want, not usually albums... I like
having the actual album...

i find i use mp3's as a sampler - if i like the music then i
have to get it on disk - cd's last for years but computers
can fuck up and delete/lose data . nothing beats having a
genuine cd in my opinion - cd-r 's a dont usually apeal to
me unless i'm doing a compilation of b-sides or tracks you
can't buy anymore (twoism 4 instance)

It'll(for me) take longer and cost more money to download a
WHOLE CD, so i just wait for a sale, and buy it.

*KABOOM* meow

them...

I just download mp3's to sample artists I'm not familiar
with and to get unreleased or rare songs. I love having the
real CD in my collection.

I get mp3s of stuff to try out, or songs which I'm not
prepared to buy a whole album for. I only buy cds now of my
favourite artists.

I think that's a different matter isn't it Laserbeak - I
think its more of case of that the record companies would go
bust if no one bought records....and then they would be in a
situation where they cannot afford to do new stuff.....and
ultimately we lose!

i only download hard to find/unreleased/out of print stuff.
and sometimes i download one or two songs in order to check
an album out.

buying cd's also makes your collection look better ;)

yeah I download MP3's as a sampler sometimes... although
sometimes I just buy without ever hearing anything about the
album...

buy

i don't trust downloaded versions.
most of the time, they aren't even the real songs. just
some bastardized version of the real album.

I think when you know the artist really well...you're more
inclined to buy cd without hearing it. Sometimes is the
case, that they tend to be shitty and live up to your
expectations....and other times they're great!

yeah it does man... I bought my first Aphex Twin album (The
RDJ Album) kinda like that... I heard a few samples from the
disc, but nothing else...

yeah with bands you know definately... Bands like Radiohead,
U2, BoC, Autechre, Aphex Twin, etc, etc, I'll buy anything
they release just because I think they're awesome... but, I
have bought albums having never heard anything by the person
or group before... sometimes it's a dissapointment, but when
it's a great cd, it's awesome!!!

hearing monkey gone to heaven one time. but it paid out, big
time. highly recommendable.
