the best vst synths

i'm a bit tired of using absynth 3, fm8 and massive all the
way and i'm searching for something fresh.

i really loved the sound in the demo of tassman4 but somehow
i disliked the fact that when you build a sound patch from
blocks you have to disable the sound whenever you make a
change.

lately i discovered vaz modular which is a terrific synth
and i'm really happy that i found it - it sits very nicely
in your sequencer and the fun with it is sheer endless -
also the sound is great. although it lacks a few "modern"
modules that i might want.

also lately found - tera3 - again i'm curious that i haven't
stumbled upon this before - it has a really wonderful sound,
consists of 6 different synths and is 16 voices multitimbral
so you can actually make whole tracks on one instance.

what are your favs besides the native instruments thingies?

renoise is a tracker, not a synth. you plug synths into
renoise.

in terms of vst, i really only ever used free ones. of
those, polyblit was by far my favorite - accurate sounding
(to me) modeling of analogue synths and a really intuitive
and pretty layout make it a joy to use. youll be amazed at
how many sounds you can get out of just a few wave
generators, filters and envelopes.

d16

they make the best sounding software implementations of the
monolithic Roland gear i've ever heard so far (in my
opinion)

the only thing i've found wrong is that the hi-hats and
cymbal on the 808 aren't quite perfect to a good ear.

i plan on buying these when i have the money. need to buy
Logic Studio first though :-s

yo can you upload that polylblit vst online so i can
download the .dll file, cause i have the old version, and
the new one has a download link on that guy errson's site
thats broken, unless you dont have the newer version either.

the TAL synths are real good too

Moog Modular - sounds pure analogue to me. It has multiple
oscilators and filters that gives you a very very wide sound
scape.

CS80v = is a replica of famous analogue synth aslong as the
Moog modular VST. Thing with Cs80v is that its very easy to
use. Some one withous any basic knowledge can create various
sounds by just tweaking knobs. good for long sustained pads
and experimental long sounds.

Get a shit load of free ones, I use freeware VSTs more than
I use the ones I've bought.

it is cool, but just because it reminds fasttracker and
digibooster that was really good like 7 years ago on my
amiga 1200.

you know there was a time when i had a shitload of free vst
plugins on my pc. the problem was just that i got totally
distacted by the amount when making a track - i rather want
to have like 5 synths which not only sound good bu also are
versatile so i can use it several times and not only for one
particular sound.

my absolute fav still remains fm8 - it's range of sound is
immense.

vaz.mp3 this is a sample of a few minutes spend with
vaz modular.

I really like vaz modular too. Very good for emulating 101
bass sounds.

i still like building them myself more than buying one or
using one that everyone else uses, plus i can make it as
extreme as i want to.

nah i stopped building anything in reaktor or else - i just
had too much ideas and eventually stopped music due to
spending all the time on making machines to make music

that's why i don't use reaktor, it's uninspiring to me.
Rather use the raw clean and simple Synthedit which serves
me well actually.

offline sadist from the dark side of the moon on 2008-01-16 13:20 [#02164226]

i can say that i'm quite comfortable now with reaktor -
maybe i'm not able to write some more complex stuff or make
my own modules but i can achieve what i want quite quickly.

it just seems to me that i have to have some kind of, you
know limit in what i can do. then i start to see what i can
do with what i have.

i always ended up tweaking the hell out of my synths i made
and was never really happy with the results.

oh i do that too, build in limits to challenge myself. The
Fah_modular i build has that, for example, all the LFOs
share the same shape-switch, which is kind of modular-like
to me. I also added peak triggered soft white/pink noise to
give the oscillators a bit more of that fleshy punch, and i
think i did quite a good job, and i keep finding out
different ways to use the thing.

Also, i never really thought while being in fruity or
ableton like "damn, i wish i had a quartet oscillator vector
synthesizer" or something like that, ideas for vsts or vstis
come by accident i guess. Or while i'm just fucking around
with modules on synthedit.

moog modular and cs80v by arturia use the EXACT same audio
engine in both synths. albeit with different filter slopes.
vaz modular is the end all be all out of everything i've
ever tried. vember audio surge is neat too. Haven't gotten
too deep with it though
