Although I haven't watched it yet, it looks like something
the board might be interested in. It's a documentary on
Robert MOOG and his music machines. S'posed to be
alright..

i agree with porick...the interviews with bob were nice, but
the luke vibert thing was basically a cameo of sorts, i was
hoping for an interview with him & that other guy he was
jamming with. It could have been better but it wasn't bad
on the same token

It was fucking Luke Vibert with Jean Jacques Perrey doing a
live jam of Frere Jacques!

That was def the highlight BUT it was a fairly enjoyable
movie.

Moog is overrated. There were other people doing similar
things. It just seems that for some reason Bob Moog gets
more credit. Don't get me wrong, he was still highly
influential, but I'm not sure why he seems to be number 1.

I don't think I would want to watch a whole documentary
about him. I'd rather watch alchemists of sound with lots of
pre-moog "electronic" / radiophonic music.

I think a better documentary would be about the guy who
founded Roland. There was a series of articles in Sound on
Sound a couple of years ago about him/Roland and I found it
very interesting.

Moog mainly gets hyped up for his distinctive ladder filter
circuit and coming up with the mini moog in the time of
giant modular beasts.
What about Dave Smith? Main instigator of MIDI, designer of
the prophet analogue synths, wavestation digital "vector"
synths, first person to do a proper soft synth.First synth
with a CPU inside, early use of polyphony, etc.

Maybe it's because Moog is dead, but somehow I doubt a fuss
will be made about Don Buchla when he's gone.
