it's just that there where like dozens of movies much more
related to christianity that didn't shock people that much

we're not, not in the context of barcode, because we have
more self conscienseness, or what christianity calls a soul,
we want consolation and therefor come up with a God

sadist: it's not shocking, but this commercialized
christianity is just suckass, like was the patriotism in
transformers (haven't seen that either, but it's the idea,
the idea that I have seen in other movies)

i don't know why you guys are talking about a will smith
movie. 9 out of 10 movies that come out period are pure
testicle drip anyways. its obvious its gonna suck. people
don't know how to make movies and actors don't know how to
act.

Well, chimps probably have more self consciousness than
chickens too, but they are both animals.

I'm only disappointed because I was kinda looking forward to
it. I had liked Omega Man, and I was hoping this would be a
prettier more up to date version of that.

But, it ended up sucking so I vent.

A) What's that got to do with Jesus?

B) From a biological perspective, humans are 100% animals.

C) Please educate yourself beyond primary school level if

fwiw, i don't think self-consciousness plays a role at all
in my classification of what is an animal and what is not.

we're different

up with the concept of God

But, we're not the only animal that understands abstract
concepts and symbolism.

There's that one gorilla that can speak hundreds of words in
sign language.

heehe, yep.

also, that bird that just died that could talk to the lab
workers. he was using words as symbols to convey meaning...
at least, it seemed like he was.

he was almost certainly conscious of himself on some level
or another.

They're not exactly on the same level though. For example
that chimp Sarah could detect intentions in others, but
couldn't acknowledge that others could detect intentions.
Something like that. Good old Sarah.

some scientists believe animals are capable of abstractions
some don't, they believe it's still like tricks to get food,
like the rat pushing a button that opens a little door to
his supper

coming up with an abstraction like god makes us different
from animals because animals can't come up with that

offline dariusgriffin from cool on 2008-01-10 10:45 [#02162162]

The problem here is that while we seemingly have better
intellectual skills, it's a little silly to look at it as a
simple man/animal dichotomy.

What about the crow that could bend a wire to get to the
food? Surely he was more human than Dick Cheney?

offline Barcode from United Kingdom on 2008-01-10 11:02 [#02162167]

Whatever, the fact is, humans ARE animals. There's a big
leap in sophistication between a flea and a dog, and there's
also a big leap between a dog and a human, but we're all
still animals. Human consciousness does not separate us from
being members of the animal kingdom.

God, jesus, religion, all belief systems in fact are an
abuse of our consciousness if anything. So called lesser
animals use what little conscious understanding they have to
its full potential, whereas humans live in some sort of
fantasy world of gods and other such rubbish which only
leads to division, confusion and untold self-inflicted
misery.

now you're saying religion holds us back from greater
potential (as human beings), and i kinda agree with that.
also i'm fine with your skill, from amoebe to human.

on the contrary i thought you said in [#02162073] that
people are just animals and therefor don't need religion,
and i disagreed with that reasoning

I didn't think it was overly christian. Nothing more than
what your average american would say. "God told me to come
here" etc...

But never the less, children aren't old enough to realise
what's going on and just follow their parents biliefs.

We have to protect kids from this. Wait till they are old
enough to decide for themselves.

but 'we' can't let that happen: if we wait until people are
old enough to decide for themselves, they'll never fall for
that BS :)

'No thank you, Mr. Jesus. Now go away.'

admit thought the CGI was slick man, the story could of
developed a bit more i thought, appocalyptic stories usualy
have a longer running time.

Religious symbolism I observed [Minus plot ques]

When Willy's family get on the chopper to leave NY they all
pray together.
When Willy is saved by the chick she has a cross hanging
from the mirror in her car.
When the chick pulls a photo of Willy's family out of the
drawer the pose is not dissimilar to that of the virgin mary
and baby jebus.
"I know because god told me" "god knows the way" etc..
Final scene is her with the antidote walking towards a
church.

This seemed like an ad for christianity rather than a story
that has biblical similarities as in Children of Men.

Children of men has a overtone to it, but no churches or
crosses or lead characters harping on about how god knows
the way he shall save us all.

Anyway I'm really happy with this threat, I think some
excellent issues have been raised and discussed without the
conversation deteriorating into name calling/anger etc..

Micro radiation is definetly the best and i am certain will
smith would agree with me as would our lard and savior jesus
savlon but do you think thats how will smith will outlive us
all as he is no doubt already doing on an alternate
tradjectory of our universe? and is the film i am ledgend
merely an illusion we can percieve of will smith (the trans
dimensional traveller)s report back to us from another plane
of existence? or merely a sludgy boring popcorn flick for
the brainead mass of cattle we call humanity to veg out to
on their way to the slaughterhouse? huh HUH ?
