Anybody familiar with this game knows I mean business.

I've been out of the gaming loop for a while. Any new titles
out there as fun as this late 90's gem?

New games are about "cool guns," so you're out of luck.

im out of game cycle too but i find it really good now.
Years ago games got ballz, like amiga longplayes (dune, rise
of the dragon etc.) these were the perls and still are for
me. And that new mega realistic game Crysis, yeah it look
nice but what is so great about trying to make game mega
realistic, i preffer to take my gun, jump on the street and
kill couple of idiots. much refreshing :)

I've tried playing Planescape Torment twice, I've enjoyed it
both times, but both times I lost interest around the
halfway point. It's strange, I've finished countless RPGs,
but never a top down one like Torment, or any of the
Baulders Gates, or NWN, or Divine Divinity. I just lose
interest on those for some reason. The most recent RPG I
completed was The Witcher, which was good but had some
problems and I didn't like the ending much.

There's always World Of Warcraft, if you have the time for
it. I don't care much for the hardcore "raid scene," but I
do enjoy leveling and going through the new zones. Same goes
for the original Everquest, which I havent played in 5 or 6
years.

There's Halflife 2 (orange box), Super Mario Galaxy (if you
have a wii), Pokemon (for the ds- if you've completely given
up on trying in society), or some old school LucasArts
adventure games like the Monkey Island series, Full
Throttle, or Indiana Jones And The Fate Of Atlantis. Lots of
other options.

And agreed, SoF2 is one of the better multiplayer shooters.
It was probably my favorite after Quake 2.

Speaking of ye olde Black Isle, Fallout 3 is on the way.
Might be good if Bethesda learned some lessons from
Oblivion. I'm cautiously optimistic about F3 and the new
Deus Ex 3.

''And that new mega realistic game Crysis, yeah it look

realistic''

The game isn't mega-realistic, you're pretty much a
superhero. Old games have shitty physics and this game has
awesome fun physics and crazy abilities, that's the main
appeal, not the realism.

Although my favorite PC game since Deus Ex is probably
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Nothing else even comes close. Play dat

It's probably my favourite game of all time. At the end, i
was closer to crying, than i've ever been from seeing any
movie, or reading any book. It's simply that good.

I guess you already played fallout 1 & 2, so nothing new
there (also very very very very good games). Oblivion is to
huge to get into, for my taste.

Mass Effect is supposed to be good, but you need an Xbox.

I myself, have been playing old Super nintendo games, on an
emulator. If you haven't tried Chrono Trigger, youre in for
a treat. Trust me on this one!

I never finished a single PC RPG, I don't think... I started
Baldur's Gate at some point, and Newerwinter Nights, and
Morrowind... Somehow I never got into them... I guess I've
been too preoccupied over the years with console RPG's,
including the aforementioned Chrono Trigger.

Stuff like Deus Ex really excites me, because it manages to
incorporate certain role-playing gameplay mechanics into a
straightforward FPS...

But I guess I can't miss out on Fallout, so that's
eventually going to have to be played.

You should certainly check out Mass Effect then!
Chrono trigger is the shit.

I'd recommend Mass Effect to anyone that liked Deus Ex
because it ''manages to incorporate certain role-playing
gameplay mechanics into a straightforward third person
shooter''. They really are very similar.

Oh man oh shit, why is Fallout, Deus Ex, System Shock,
Starcraft etc all getting updated, but not the best PC
series ever, Thief? :_-( It's second only to Metal Gear in
my heart.

I guess they kind of tried that with Assassins Creed, but
it's not the same. I think i would have the same feeling
about a new version of Thief, as i'm having right now with
Fallout 3. Very anxious :S

Yeah, Assassin's Creed was a bitter disappointment for me
because of that very reason... I desperately wanted it to be
Thief for a new era, and it just wasn't, despite some
absolutely brilliant ideas and concepts. The mission design
was just bad.

I seriously doubt anyone could ever recreate the odd vibe
that the Thief games gave out. Brilliant games. They were
groundbreaking at the time. I don't think any other game has
managed to make me nerveous the way that game did!

All the zombie missions are unbearably tense, especially the
cathedral from Thief 1. Shalebridge Cradle from Thief 3 was
right up there too. But even the missions robbing normal
people in their normal estates are scary... sneaking around
in first person is so visceral and nerve wracking. You can't
magically see around corners like every other stealth game.
There was nothing like that back then and there still
isn't.

I thin I'm in the minority that feels Thief 3 was just as
good as the first two, because of the Cradle and missions
like the Overlook Mansion. Finding the hysterical grieving
seafarer's widow up in her top floor balcony and feeling
guilt over all the thieving I just did.

I played the original Thief and have very fond memories of
it... I never got as far as the third installation. The game
is like the anti-Doom: you do NOT just go from room to room
and shoot people. Refreshing.

Thanks Ophecks, DirtyPriest, and Box Bob; recommendations
much appreciated.

Chrono Trigger is a hallmark of my youth. I'm stoked to
check out Mass Effect, Deus Ex, and the Fallouts.

I used to play a lot of RPGs when I was younger, but not so
much nowadays.

Fallout 1 & 2 are probably my all-time favorite RPG games. I
recommend these games to everyone who has a slight interest
in RPGs. They're turn-based, and this can take some time
getting used to. But once you get into the the gameplay and
story, however, you can't stop playing.

I refuse to read the long winded replies in this thread, but
will instead recommend Vampire Bloodlines. Most underrated,
overlooked game ever. Really passionate game making in
action! I think most RPGs work the best with established
licenses/franchises, like Bioware/Black Isle working in
AD&D/Forgotten Realms and Troika with the VTM RPG.

And Bioware's Star Wars games too. They have much less
'forced' backstory with those games, compared to trying to
cram a shitload of establishment into their new concepts.
