I know I shouldn't be up this late at night. I just can't sleep. Here's the reason why: One of my best friends said he was gay to me tonight. He said I was the first person he confessed to. I'm 22 and he's 21. I've known him since high school. I can honestly say that this won't affect our friendship. I'm quite liberal when it comes to sexuality. What I'm worried about, however, is that he's been extremely self-destructive the past few months. I suspect the whole sexuality thing is his biggest problem. He's been experimenting with drugs I wouldn't even touch (GHB, meth and other types of shit). I'm worried. What the fuck should I do? |

Fuck. All I can think of is refer him to a shrink, which sucks because I think shrinks are pigs and am sure it would be a rediculous idea in your scenario for some reason. Just saying something because I know this sucks for you. Hope it works out well. |

Tell him that you're worried about him, tell him (if you haven't already) that his being gay doesn't affect how you see him one bit, and that anyone who's a decent human being will feel the same way. Anyone in his life that can't accept him for who he is should be forgotten. Sorry for the cookie cutter advice, but the first step is always to make sure he knows you're there for him, and that he doesn't need to turn to drugs because he can turn to you for support. |

Even I must admit the last post is funny. But seriously Zephyr says it right. The guy is taking drugs to escape from the reality of being gay. He probably wouldn't have to if society wasn't full of childish assholes cracking jokes (and worse) at his expense. And there's a few too many of them on this forum as it happens. I used to know this music teacher in high school who was flaming gay, and i recently saw him up at a bar, and he creeped me out, like he kept looking at me, i felt like he was scanning my hormonal aural discharge if that makes sense. gays can be really cool, or fucking creeps just proud to have the label of gay. |
