seems very underrated to me - or at least it's a mystery
for me that he gets like no attention at all around here. or
do i just miss those topics all the time? what do you think
about him? i mean i started listening to kirlian selections
a few days ago and it's fabulous - every song a masterpiece.
okay you cannot compare it to tracks from drukqs but still
those piano and classical pieces sound very good.

oh btw - those wonderful granular sounds - is this kyma? it
just sounds so good that i can't believe it's another piece
of hard/software

probably he got more attention when he was new on the scene
at any rate he gets flak for being "inconsistent" i think
was the term

I like him, even if 90% of everyone hates him and calls him
whatever they want. I like Tycho too. They are both great
producers who write great melodies.

i remember when i first got kirlian selections i felt kinda
guilty that i found myself thinking he'd one-upped
squarepusher but since i've kinda developed an attitude of
squarepusher is still better because he pioneered the style

he used to post on a few places, and generally people got
the impression he was an asshole. could be true, but i think
some people are also jealous of his copious skills...

don't know his work.
saw him in detroit a month or two back.

sorry to sound negative (rarely do) but it wasn't my cup of
tea.

i didn't know his material going into-it, but it was the
fast bits with slow melodies (sqr style i suppose), but it's
like the melodies were too slow for the fast bits.

hard to explain but ah, what you gonna do.

of his worst albums, but I do still really like it. Can
anyone suggest a better one for me to get please?

had uploaded and seeded on oink. Fuck off, prick.

here

he got caught out on oink after someone leaked his acid wolf
stuff and he got pissed off. the idiot had uploaded gigs
upon gigs of stuff and shared/seeded shitloads of albums,
most of which were on indie labels.

musically, i actually like some of his acidwolf stuff, but
every time i hear it, i can't help but think they were
produced by an idiot.

Somebody just gave me flexing habitual. So I am hoping it's
going to be good. I have a sneaking suspicion that it's
going to be like some many things I have heard before.

Don't know though. Hopefully I will be proved to be wrong.

Flexing Habitual is awesome, but Kirlian Selections is a
masterpiece.

His new work is quite astounding. I'd suggest that anyone
listen to Time Ache Finale on his myspace page.

i don't think he made any 'masterpieces', but he's alright
at some things. he's not that good at sound
choice/production though, i think. well, he might be GOOD,
but not really to my taste. some really nice melodies
though, the one cx named up there is great.

he is very inconsistent, releases a lot of unfinished
sounding tracks or just poor tracks. it gets a bit
disappointing when so many tracks start strong and dont
reach their peak. some great stuff tho. i rarely want to
listen to a whole album, they are all too incoherent for
me.

Brown #12 is a good track

he should have gotten a job on the side of music making,
instead of thinking to earn some fat cash out of selling
albums. I can not imagine any living sane soul would agree
with all of his statements in his rant.

And to be honest, posing yourself down as the next best new
thing (it just sounds like that to me), is a bad thing to do
in general to most of "your fans" or "the customers"(-Ben
Jordan)

Back to his music, it doesn't do anything for me. Sure he
has some tracks that i find really enjoyable, but i just
don't like the rest of it. His Acid Wolf stuff is good
though but that's maybe because i feel it compensates
against his Flashbulb moniker.

Some of his stuff is brilliant. I think when you're as
creative as he is in producing cutting-edge IDM then you are
always going to release hit and miss material. As far as I'm
concerned he's in the same boat as Aphex, Square and Tipper
- geniuses on their day, but more often that not,
disappointing.

As for the uploading/downloading, if true then it makes him
look a bit foolish. Maybe he thought, if he can't beat them
why not join them, and that's his perogative. People change
and their reasons change. I think the true idiots are those
who let an artists personality get in the way of the
enjoyment of their music.

"Red extensions of me" and "Kirlian selections" are more
than good, well constructed and produced albums. However
:"Flexing Habitual" sucks an orca`s cock drowned in
elephant`s poo, and totally makes no sense.

I'm listening to some of his stuff on myspace and I don't
hear anything that couldn't be done with Max, Reaktor or PD.
With granular synthesis it's more a matter of finding the
sweet spot with a particular sample, where it does something
atypical and neat, than of buying or stealing some special
instrument.

That was an interesting read. I still wonder about about one
possible business strategy; just set up a website and
initially offer 1 'teaser' song for download to show the
general style, then only after you receive 100$ or whatever
of donations, another song is made available for download.
Anyone can donate any amount, so if one individual really
likes them he can outright pay for all of them to be
released. If only, say, 57$ is donated so far a bar that
shows '57' is displayed and the song simply isn't released
to the public yet (only the creator even knows what it
sounds like). Plus you don't have to do jack shit with
making jewel case/booklet/etc crap as downloading is the
most convenient transfer. Would only work if your music is
really good quality and you'd have advertising to worry
about. Still might not work because there's a flood of
people who probably release tracks of a similar quality for
free to compete with. But aphex who is known already could
maybe make quite a lot using it (instead of 100 per song,
like 10,000 or whatever). Also there would be a problem of
people trusting you. I like baked potatoes, especially the
small red ones. Just bake for an hour at 350 degrees.
