Letterage

A lot of SynthEdit MIDI trickery to Machinedrum here.
Recording random MIDI signals into patterns, thus making
them quantised. Wouldn't be a bad MD demo really if the
softsynths (not many of them either) were removed.

this is well produced and it sounds like you know what
buttons youre pressing on your box of tricks. next time id
like something more poppy with one of those catchy melodies
that you can hum all day long and a four part harmony to
make my heart melt please.

Yeah like mentioned above, a lot of nice tricks but as a
song it's not the grandest, very nice though :)

And about 10 years too late for this sort of guff to pass as
experimental.

It's good, maybe a couple minutes too long. I love the alien
sounding kick.

Yeah, I'm probably gonna work on it a bit more. There's
loads I could do with this but just couldn't be arsed
yesterday.

Thanks! It's up then hehe... it's a shame you can't listen
to it using their new program thing, I've been trying for a
while to access my own music through that and it never
works.

Programming and nonlinearity/guided randomness is
interesting. I liked it a lot more before the more
repetitive overlay came over the top. Actually I only really
like the 1st 16 seconds, but there is quite a shortage of
tracks that use algorithms well which is why autechre stays
on top. What did you program it with? I want to try music
experiments in actionscript eventually if that's even
suitable to do so.

I suggest you try getting some really shitty speakers and
composing through them. This limitation forces you to work
with the more important striking properties of the sound
rather than subtle things like panning and sound quality
that is mostly only obviously present on headphones.

I have heard 1 or 2 of your previous tracks on both
headphones and speakers. In both cases the former sounded
nice, and superior to the latter which sounded farty in
comparison, like some sort of surround sound or rich
lushness of some sort was one of the main aesthetic aspects
but only recognizable on headphones. I only listened to this
recent one on speakers but suspect it has the same property.
On speakers it was kinda flat and repetitious without much
too it.

On pevious tracks I remember it sounded quite nice and rich
rather than 'there', but only on headphones for me at least.

i dont know what im doin wrong really. dont know how id get
that sound out of speakers. it sounds dope to me. when i get
into it lately im trying to create an atmosphere thats like
nebulous and warm but i guess it just ends up muddy? maybe
ill try what u reccomended mixing on some crappy speakers
