does anyone know how to get the most out of a mono room
recording? we only have one mic... Sennheiser MD 441, for
recording jams...

listen

i compressed some... but there can be done more stuff,
right?
any tips are welcome.... also on the track! (main guitar is
missing, and we have no singer...)

first think of resaults you want to achieve and then ask new
questions.

sound more crisp, using software mastering stuff, you
fucking bum?

thanks!
it's the first time we're trying to do a structured song...
still in the sketch phase i guess, and we're desperately
looking for a singer... or a sax player or triangle girl.
like stated above, there's another guitar, just missing on
that recording...

here's some jam snippet: blub

if anyone knows how to post-process some more punch to the
snare drum... i'd be happy!

(Apparently) it also depends on the room. Try and stick the
mic in the quietest/most balanced place. Perhaps even try
outside the room itself. My band had a practice after school
one day which we recorded in a very small practice room. We
would've got a better sound recording outside with the
windows open.

we tried fucking around with the mic... have it now hanging
from the ceiling in the middle of the room. the thing is...
we got lots of hours of recordings like this, which i want
to review and edit... and they're okay i guess... you can
hear everything... just a bit flat... i'm sure with some
good compressor settings and eq-ing it can be helped.::?

Yeah definitely. Dump the track into a sequencer/DAW (I find
Ableton Live works wonders for "remastering" stuff like
this) and fiddle round with some compressors/EQs.

okay we did some things that went obviously wrong a bit more
right this time.... plugging bass and guitars directly into
the mixer and using the md 441 and a canon xg1 minidv cam to
record the drums.... then compressed the hell out of it
(dynamic range of 2008!) ....needs more salt?
LAZY_LEZMS

another jam stuff shite piece

This is hella awesome. Reminds me of The Advantage and Don
Cab, two bands I really love. The recording sounds fine.
