sadist - journey into space

so, beneath is a recording from a performance i had at a
local club yesterday. in this particular place there are
randomly themed electronic gigs every thursday. yesterdays
theme was "space". so i had like 2 weeks to bring something
up to fill up my hour.

as i discovered that the lounge had several amplifiers for
their speakers (the club has a 4.2 sound system) i realised
that instead of a simple beat oriented set i would rather
want to make a surround performance which would be a journey
to all of our 8 planets with 8 tracks inspired by the
planets themselves and in this particular 4.2 surround.

it's a pity this mp3 recording won't give oyu the experience
of space that this set had in the venue when the sound was
panning from speaker to speaker, but i hope that it might be
a glimpse. if someone has a surround speaker system and
sound card and has ANY knowledge on how to decode files so
that they will play surround i can make that.

i'm sorry the speaking is in polish - the voice itself gives
a few informations about every planet with size etc. i would
be really glad if someone could point me a good speech
synthesizer that speaks english with a similar voice so i
could make the set multicultural. thanks in advance.

journey into space

only thing is i wish i knew which track was for which
planet..

but regardless

the production is absolutely insane, im playing it rather
loud and the sense of space is amazing.

the planets are in the original order

sun
mercury
venus
earth
mars
jupiter
saturn
uranus
neptune

i was working on pluto but stopped after my friend told me
that since a year it's no planet anymore.... sucks

it's a pity that this is just stereo - for example sun and
mercury the surround was just essential.

I think it needs an "Asteroid Belt" interlude.

Actually, I haven't listened to this yet, but I'll be sure
to download it once I've got my own computer back as it
sounds like something I'd like.

probably.

I really really like this set, especially Venus and Mars,
but:

...promieniowanie radiowe pochodzące od
pierścieni planety o niewiadomym pochodzeniu.

...is just plain wrong, as far as I know Polish.

about that playing - not really - but i mean it doesn't work
like mailing someone "hey can i play at your gig?". nobody
from the autechre gig has contacted me so i guess i won't. i
was meant to play before monolake in january in warsaw but
the idea somehow died - dunno even if the gig is still
planned.

Out of two: Krakow, no doubt. People like to brag how
overhyped it is, but the city centre is really beautiful.

On an actually related note - the music is fucking
brilliant. If some of the harsher sound were toned down a
bit, i could easily see it being used in a discovery type
thing about the planets. But still... It's supposed to work
for itself, and it does. It's pretty fucking good. I
listened to it sober, and liked it, and i'm listening to it
now, drunk as piss, and i'm LOVING IT!!!

thank you guys ! cool that after such a long time this came
up again :> i'm flattered.

to make some fuzz and hype: the set your listening to is
actually obsolete at the moment being.

i'm actually working constantly (as far as school and
live-giging allows me to) on this set and it is looking
quite fantastic.

i had a few sessions with a very good local guy working with
visuals (kinetofon - you polish guys should know him) and we
already had our first gig this set + his visuals. crowd
loved it - we had a few parts in his visuals controlled by
midi coming out of my pc so for example at a few breakdowns
the visuals came in the same second.

also i dropped the concept with the vocal. it seemed ok in
the first edition but know i think that it might be a bit to
cheesy. i'll have o rethink that again. thanks to the
visuals the viewer is constantly getting information where
in his journey he is because the visual guy had this idea to
show the astronomical symbol of every planet at the
beginning of each track and just the name of it. made sense.

aside that - saturn and jupiter have been switched. both
tracks have been majorely changed. earth is completely
rebuild. i'm also thinking about adding a few tracks.
definately the "asteroid prelude" that zephyr was suggesting
and maybe some more. according to some scientists ceres,
pluto, charon and 2003UB213 are also planets :> okay maybe
i'll just stick with the asteroid belt cause otherwise
they'll burn me.

i'm also getting help with the surround mastering as i made
the surround version on a few simple multimedia speakers and
it must sound gruesome on a good hi-fi.

i guess that maybe august we will be able to make a nic dvd
with it.

dirtypriest: definately krakow. my personal favourite town
of poland with wroclaw close second. although i have to
admit that tourism wise - definately krakow.

i guess you will have an awful lot of fun there when it
comes to nightlife etc. you'll have a really good time.

as for sightseeing - of course the main market which is just
totally awesome and one of the biggest in europe. the castle
has to be seen the old town and my personal favourite -
"kazimierz" the old jewish district.

also - in krakow you are quite near zakopane and could drop
by there. wonderful small town in mountains - if you're into
a bit of trekkind :>

nearby is also oswiecim or auschwitz in german - the biggest
concentration camp of world war - it' a though thing to see
and can really bring people down - i remember when we had an
exchange with a german school and we took them there - i
remember that there wasn't a single german not crying.
though thing to see but a must.

totally forgot ! wieliczka ! it' like fust a few kilometers
from krakow - an old underearth salt mining station with the
biggest cavern in the world and beautiful sculptures out of
salt. if you're in krakow - you just have to see it.

and if you are desperate - a bit away is czestochowa. or you
know what - don't go there.

dirtypriest: of other towns i could recommend torun and
poznan and of course my home-town gdynia. but i guess you
will rather stay in one place. but you could give torun a
shout - wonderful place.

when it comes to warsaw - okay it's the capital. it's big.
but it's just awful. most of the cool things to see are
things left by communism (palac kultury - the highest
building in poland), some total mischiefs by the government
like probably the shortest metro in europe or some desperate
ideas to make the town look modern (zlote tarasy) when on
the other side of the street you have the most awful
looking, smelling and funcitoning train station in the
world.

i hate this town.

Perfect minimalistic guide to south Poland.

DP: I must add that you should avoid Zakopane during longer
weekends and major holidays. Too many uninteresting people
and the travel to and from the town takes incredibly long.
