didn't it come out in an October? i remember getting it for
xmas and having the winter to absorb it all in. So I also
connote that album with winter.

started it all for me too, I remember that christmas holiday
(2001) absolutely playing it to death. Never got tired of it
though.

Here is another Drukqs story by a junkie.

I remember that it didn't start my electronic music
revolution because I already was into a lot of electronic
artists. I do remember that somewhere at this point I got
connected to the internet. I already had a PC but my
girlfriend kept on whining about it. I did not want it
because I was afraid of addiction. In the end I admit having
internet is extremely practical.

Once I hooked up to cyberspace I dled this Thinktoy Drukqs
minimix. I can still see those stupid WMP visualizations in
front of me, which, at the time were amazing tbh. It amazed
me of how much stuff there was on the internet and I soon
ended up using WinMX (not sure if the name is correct) and
download stuff at 7kbps.

I also discovered the power of a PC in reference to games.
Never before was I aware that PCs can generate such
graphics.. so I also got addicted to gaming again. :)

music, it's great that he is back on track nowadays...

it was just by chance. I had an interest in Aphex Twin and
Drukqs was just the first album I came across. It isn't the
most representative of his music nor the most accessible but
it blew my little mind at the time. To be fair it still
does.

heard about the 'accident'. hehe. love the album.

but then in 2002 i was working in the isle of wight at the
savoy holiday village and living in their staff quarters.
one day i was pumping the rdj album and this guy living
above me heard it and he was like "woah, this shit is
genius!" so he went out and bought drukqs. i borrowed it
from him and subsequently ripped it onto my xbox. i then
filled my bucket with this really sweet moroccan pollen,
inhaled, exhaled, and pressed play. i then proceeded to have
a religious experience.

I remember waiting for it like a kid waits for Christmas
present. Than when I got my copy running home and listening
to it and skipping every non drill/break sounding track.
Well I thought 7/10 is fine because of drill tracks. The
time was passing and then I started discovering this album
again and finally buying a vinyl version. Well me and
sadist, we think that this the one of most underrated albums
from RDJ or maybe in electronic music. Everything has sense
and it`s very well thought. Mastering is also a strong point
of this album. Bass drum from 54 Cymru Beats is just a
moster (How the hell it was created?)! 9/10. I still have
uncompressed version on my ipod.

i recorded the tracks (slowed down a bit) again, on my
friends quality tables/needles/gear from my 180g slabs.

i have the aif's, i'll have to cut them up and convert to
flac and upload.

i've found the aif/lossless recordings from the vinyl vs the
cd are much better to my ears...

I remember when people discussed about which cd was better
if 1 or 2

or even the vinyl listeners about what 12" was better out of
the 4

also when people said the tracks should have been compiled
in two groups, piano tracks and ambient tracks all together
and the drill tracks all together

people even thought that there was way too much filler in
the album and that the best would have been a one cd only
album with no more than 15 tracks

I always thought the album worked quite well as it is
anyway... or I think so now

if the tuss is an indication of what drukqs v2 would sound
like that would be excellent. but i'm afraid richie'll stick
to releasing scattered eps/tracks in the future. and perhaps
some compilations like analord, but 'proper' albums like
drukqs (only double albums count as proper)...i hope he
would though

I've got drukqs on cd, and twice on vinyl. One of the vinyl
packs I got for about 3quid from a closing down record shop
which had about 50 records left! The other one I use for
playing and have the sleeves next to the analords and the
big cardboard thing has been waiting for years to go on my
wall because I think it looks cool. (Didn't they have on on
Shaun of the dead??)

I like the vinyl because the tracks seem to be re-organised
in a more DJ friendly format.

I can't believe I've just added something to the millionth
drukqs topic on here, but there you go.

it's (deservingly) regarded as one of IDMs greatest

The vinyl has the tracks in a different order. It may be for
mastering reasons, i.e. distributing evenly so each record
is same length = same sized grooves = same volume.

Also, some are 45 and some are 33, so I guess the tracks
could be grouped by BPM (usually higher BPM are at 45
because a DJ will more likely want to play them slower at 33
wrong speed rather than much faster).

The discogs page has the vinyl tracks listed on it.
Musically, it's all the same, just in a different sequence.
The big box is great though - it's even printed on the
inside too!

"heh, i remember back when drukqs leaked and EVERYONE was

I still basically feel that way. I don't hate it or
anything, but I think it is full of filler, has only a few
standout tracks, and I rarely listen to it. I don't think
it's inaccessible, or a grower, it's just sort of mediocre
and forgettable. Plus it still gives me the impression he
just reheated some old song fragments he had knocking around
on his hard drive. It doesn't have a fraction of the energy
or novelty of RDJ album, Come to Daddy EP, or Windowlicker.

run it on 33 and retract your statements.

it's wicked mental but completely controlled.
after listening to vsnares (no harm meant), or other fast
types, they sound "thrown together"

drukqs is so controlled. i don't give a fuck - fanboi or
not, i have more memories tied to this album than any
combined.

in the fall of 01 and I was walking home from my dance class
and I had my sweatband on REALLY tight and I go on the bus
on my way downtown to pick up some spuds from a homeless guy
but I started to feel kind of faint and this kid on the bus
was listening to this music and I asked him what it was
because it was REALLY loud and he told me it was the new
shit by Mannilow so I rushed to a record store to buy
Mannilow's new shit but the store had already closed so I
broke in and stole a bunch of shit and one of them was the
new aphex twins album. it was awesome.
