hey guys

like many of my friends ive been making music on a laptop,
and its been fun but ive been getting to into it to just
keep using VSTis and crap synths.

i dont know shit about analog equipment, and i know i wont
really benefit by reading a Roland synth manual, unless i
chain myself down and discipline myself enough to read it.

but honestly, i was looking at something like this handmade
sequencer synth, i was wondering-

can i use an Edirol PCR 30 and convert the usb output to
Midi, then to the input on that synth?

so i can sync Ableton live with the synth and the Edirol, so
i can use the Edirol for the synth and for the parameters
and drums in ableton?

please some help is wanted.

sorry for the analog n00byness,

That synth only has analog clock in so you'd have to use a
midi to control voltage unit of some kind to sync it with a
computer, and you couldn't directly "play" it from a
keyboard or a computer.

But, it is a Peruvian electronic noise sequencer synth
nonetheless and the coolest piece of music technology I've
seen lately. Damn.

so what keyboard could i use to control it then? and could
it be polyphonic?

and lastly, there would be no Clock-syncing problems with
using it with Ableton live?

you don't really need to spend a lot of money on hardware
like that...
if you're imaginative you can make amazing music using just
a crappy 486 pc, making good music is a lot more about using
what's in front of you well than fixating on something you
don't own and thinking it will solve all your problems.
if you have problems that is.
i get by perfectly well with a 5 year old toshiba pc and a
copy of renoise, i got skills so its not a problem for me to
have a limited setup.

You went from 'amazing music', to 'good music' and then 'I
get by'.

You don't need to use a computer to play that synth, it has
a sequencer. You could do what you want with your ableton,
but it might end up being cheaper with better results using
some other kind of analogue synthesizer with midi input,
like an evolver or an mfb synth II.

but how do you hook up a keyboard to trigger/play the
notes?

i never figured that out yet.

You cannot do that with this synth. This is not the droid
you are looking for.

gawd if you want one of those "synths" I could build you one
for £50. not sure if the case would be as cool, but it
would function exactly the same.

if you decide to do so let me know and ill pay good money
for it
if you do some custom/cool shit to it.

right now im looking at the Roland Juno 106.

looks pretty damn cool, and i just played one at a guitar
center, well actually a Juno 60 but do they soound that
different?

quick guide for safe synth use:

use only the white crystals. yellow crystals are unpure.
don't snort but smoke in glass pipe or inject intravenously
(mix with spring water and salt).

eat only fruit that day, have a sitter present and go.
