Richard James' funeral will be on Tuesday.

Thousands of mourners are expected to attend.

The funeral procession will travel from Whitehall through to
Elephant & Castle, accompanied by the London Philharmonic
Choir singing "Milkman's wife's tits".

...he said the wtc attacks was works of art, I guess we got
ourselves a work of art again?

(I haven't forgot that he called afx' music to "post-african
repetitions", afx' music are at least listenable most of the
time... :P )

"I heard the piece Aphex Twin of Richard James carefully: I
think it would be very helpful if he listens to my work Song
Of The Youth, which is electronic music, and a young boy's
voice singing with himself. Because he would then
immediately stop with all these post-African repetitions,
and he would look for changing tempi and changing rhythms,
and he would not allow to repeat any rhythm if it were
varied to some extent and if it did not have a direction in
its sequence of variations."

I think that should be on his tombstone.

he wrote a piece for a quartet playing in helicopters and
had it actually performed. (oh my god) i've never heard any
work from him, but it looks like he's rather a conceptual
artist than a musician. but it could be that i miss the
post-african repetitions.

The helicopter piece is silly and not representative of his
work. I don't know, listen to Kontakte, his Klavierstücke,
something.

his silliness is more musical, yes, than performance

his personality, however, is pure performance

not in the sense of faking it, but in the sense of taking
art so seriously that there is no difference between the
artist and the man

I think Dockstader doesn't get enough credit. His stuff was
the most enjoyable, but he didn't have a PHD so its not good
I guess.

i'd say dockstader (i love him btw) does quite different
thing..his contemporaries were focused on composition and he
was in it for the sound itself and the structure wasn't all
that important. but yes, if he had a music diploma he'd
probably get more credit.
