[Spam] My final release as Skink

So the time has come to move on and move forward to new
musical climates. I think i have learnt a lot from these
last few years. I just need to move on to do something else.

So, this is the last release that i am going to have an
active hand in (There is a remix i did coming out on 12"
sometime in the new year.) What you have in there is an hour
and a half of material. The first part is a mix of stuff
that i could never get quite right. However when I sequenced
it made some sort of sense. The second part is just some old
tracks really. Some of which you might not have heard. That
is if you have been following me at all.

LAZY LAST SKINK

I apologise for it is a megaupload thing. I hope you enjoy
this.

is it clever to change a name you've worked up, though?

i'll check it zune.

It feels right at the moment. One of my main reasons for
doing it is that trying to make it work nearly broke me. I
want to do things my own way from now on. We'll see how long
it takes me to go back on it I suppose.

: )

I'll be checking this stuff out after I've finished this
horrible essay.

But what do you mean by "trying to make it work nearly broke
me"? If you'd rather not share, that's fine. I'm just
curious.

1. It is really hard to make pople give a damn about
anything. Especially when it isn't very special and you know
it isn't. It's living a lie essentially.

2. I would rather just create and do things my way. I have
some very different ideas i would like try out.

3. There is far too much mental baggage attached to the
name. I would rather be free of it.

4. Most importantly: I am trying to recover my mental health
to a point where i can actually function. I have been really
down in the shit for easily 6 months now. Some of which has
been really very dark. The added stress of trying to make
this work hasn't made things better. Doing music is
something i have always considered as therepy and fun. Until
this year however.

Considering those reasons. I think it makes sense. I do feel
a little better knowing that i will not have to worry about
these things for a while. Doing music is something i have
always considered as therepy and fun. Until this year
however. I feel this due to decisions i cannot change. So, i
am making this choice.

I can relate to a lot of that. But I think the stress might
come from realising that you have made something special
which is being ignored, rather than an inability to keep up
a pretense that it is special. A lot of what we think about
what we create is governed by what occurs outside its
creation, and that can be really destructive. The quality of
it isn't always a factor, and the creating part is normally
very fun, or at worst, a bit frustrating.

I really don't think it's anything special though. I think
we'll see as to whether i do anything under the name again.
I just want to create and not worry about names.

i think i'm gonna listen to all of this soon

on a cursory listen, there are some clear gems in here. i
really like 'feeding a misanthrope'. you shouldn't give up.
i understand the idea of changing names, tho. it might help
clear things out.

I didn't know if I wanted to download this so I listened to
some of your tracks on last.fm - I like the "pomme rips"
track. Is it about Pomme de Terre farting? It's so pretty.
You must really like his farts. :D

Haha, no. It is because the piano sample sounded a little
like the one in the colour of pomegranates by Susumu Yokota.
So i thought it would be i would reference it in some way.

I enjoyed this. There was, however, one song, somewhere in
that first track, the 42:50 track.. it's got a voice being
pitched around a bit.. where have I heard that song before?
Is it something you've spammed before, a remix of some
track, just that track, or just some kind of coincidence
where you've made exactly the same song as some other
people?

Erm, that's a remix of Odd Nosdam i did for the Anticon
competition. I did spam it here but it fell off the front of
the board very quickly.

cool i'll give this a listen

i remember something of yours from a few years ago that is
still fresh in my mind. Had some sample of a girl going "is
anybody in here?" or something...

I remember i felt very amateur after hearing that...

I finally got a chance to listen to some of these tracks,
and I really enjoyed them. I'd have liked some of them to go
on a bit longer, but that's not a bad thing, really.
