I don't think of AFX or Ae in terms of sex, I think of them as my great, close personal friends, though each suits a different mood. AFX I would like to go out with for perhaps a trip to the countryside, to visit old ruins or a cliff. He'd be going on about how "mad" it all was and you'd see his little brain thinking of lush ambient soundscapes. Then you'd go to a museum and he'd be going on about how "mad" the ancient relics were, and you'd see his little brain imagining the "beats" the people of that epoc would've made, had they recourse to his enormous collection of synths. Then you'd go for a drink afterwards and he'd start getting a liitle bit moody, and fidgety and clearly be wanting to go back home so he could work on a new album that he will never release, not even to his friends. Because not one of them is good enough, the fucking bastards, all trying to steal his style.
With the Ae boys you'd probably go to a sporting event, maybe rugby or snooker. The lads would be going about how "mad" it was and drawing parallels between the complex interplay of the game at hand, and computerised rhythms and completely new systems of musical notation. Afterwards you'd visit something like a huge Hydroelectric Station or a Submarine nest. They chaps, obviously impressed, would go on about how "mad" it was and you'd see their little brains coming up with vast , discordant electronic swathes in a bid to reflect the enormity of what we were looking at. Almost as if from an alien visitor to earth's viewpoint. Afterwards we'd retreat to a cafe and have something for supper. You go to the lavvy and the lads have left, leaving you with the bill. It's not because they're mean, just that their minds are on higher things, like 3.5 D Architecture and Inverse Bass.
Overall, I'd prefer to hang out with D'Arcangelo, becaue they have manners.

Both have older tracks (ex: equation track, to cure a weakling child contour regard/ 777, vose in) that are obviously at the absolute apex of quality and imagination (or algorithmic sophistication), and still too sophisticated to be well imitated by the masses with their stupid fruity loops/etc setups and average brains. But for some very perplexing reason, the masses hardly appreciate such tracks and instead regard the simplest, least sophisticated tracks, that were the easiest to create, as their best works. Then again this is based on subjectivity, and given that most people are idiots I guess it makes sense. They're both still geniuses simply because they're now exploiting this stupidity by lazily releasing sucky albums that everyone will buy. They probably need a large sum of money to experiment with their new interests of wormhole teleporting or matter creation technology or something. Aphex twin is more devious of course (as in game theory he is probably the type to select 'defect' every time- and he tries to break the crap conventions layed out almost everywhere possible simply because anywhere humanity has not tended to go is likely to be the best place.. as a simple example using an odd number like 81 as a tempo, if he even uses the same measurement units, or creating his own time signatures) by releasing albums that come in gourmet diamond laced binders.

autechre I think of more associated with others like coil, scorn, r. devine, pan sonic
aphex I think of along with squarepusher, u-ziq, wisp etc
It is weird they are thought of as being in the same genre .. maybe in 1994 but not so much in 2007

"afx" and "aphex twin" represent only aspects of RDJ, and thus many of his releases under specific pseudonyms are purposefully sort of generic and, shall we say, to-be-expected-in-a-quirky-way
on the other hand, autechre represents the whole of autechre - OK, minus gescom which is another "excuse" to try something else and different collabs...
my guess is that after close to two decades of mutual music-making, the Sean-Rob partnership is beginning to show signs of ossification. but what they do they do extremely well now

Well it will be interesting to hear what ae put out next. D7.30 and Gantz seemed like the final climax of what they had been building up to since like Chiastic Slide. Then along comes Untilted which is like a real side step. It was almost like going back to basics, putting the laptops away and limiting the processing to what could be done on drum machines and other hardware and definetly more focused on what can be done with simple sequencing rather than envelope generating, beat slicing and number crunching. So whatever they do next almost seems like it has to be somewhat of a fresh approach to their sound.

Aphex and AE are like fucking to fit girls.
The Aphex girl is gorgeous in a very inviting sense, but still melancholy, but as soon as you plunge your hard member into her fish hatch a stink from the 5th ring of hell is released and you pump quicker and harder to get it over with as quick as possible while holding your breath.
Ae, hmm..I don't listen to them as much to be honest

Dogshit might have been a tad harsh, it's just that he showed us with drukQs and windowlicker that he's capable of so much more. Smojphace? 26 mixes for cash? Aphex is an asshole.
Analord 10 was great though and got my hopes up for the whole series, but although there are maybe 10 good tracks on Analord 1-9 and 11, they don't even come close to analord 10.
3:54-4:28 on xmd5a still takes me to school.

ae n afx were once fresh, sweet smelling young virgins frolicking in the fields , barely experienced in the art of sucking cock and being used as sex receptacles but their youthful inexperience was matched by their obvious attractiveness and seemingly limitless potential for all kinds of crazy cock bashing fun - indeed, as aristotle once noted : these girls could fuck, and boy would they show it ! Over time of course they both became highly proficient at whoring their wares, building up a seemingly massive amount of clients impressed by their newly invented tricks and innovations, each release seemingly inventing an entire new way to blow yer load, indeed many of their clients believed at some point in the mid to late 90s that these chicks were about to lead us all to some kind of mind blowing cosmic orgasm that would bathe the whole world in our milky jizz ! But it was not to be, mother nature was to avoid her facial cumshot : Other, slightly younger and perhaps less talented whores were beggining to appear on their patch and utilize all of their tricks and with the ease of whoring making the art of sucking dick amazingly widespread so that even toothless ugly whores who smelled of vinegar could suck dick in all kinds of crazy fashions that 5 years previously hadnt even been invented, the special qualities of these 2 lovely ladies became more and more diluted ! It didnt help that perhaps the tits were starting to droop slightly and the asses began to sag as the bowels loosened and incontinence seemed to be approaching, and at some point in about 2003 it became clear AE had some kind of musical STD perhaps caught while holidaying with gary glitter in thailand, and AFX seemed to have retreated into a seemingly endless silence after a vicious falling out with her pimp only to reapper a couple of years later whoring the same old tricks but to slightly less effect : rubbery skin, gums pared back, the slight whiff of sulphur emanating from her once smoothly toned body, glistening in the sunset as the death cock smile

again I much prefer analord 1,2,5,7,8,11 rather than 10
but thats tastes
about 26 mixes for cash, who can say it is bad? apart from the sound quality in some of the tracks and the fact that some others are edited to be shorter, those are almost all his mixes... and most are awesome
that compilation cannot be judged as part of his later output in any case though

this thread is an outlet for many a masturbatory fantasy
saying the word "afx" raises the blood pressure of a typical IDM nerd by 3%, saying "autechre" by another 3% - but putting them together under one topic is liable to cause massive upsurge of erectile functioning, resulting in instant gratification of the most unspeakable kind
