the best thing ever.

don't really even know what minimal(ist) oftentimes means...
i love kompakt stuff, and all kinds of interesting sounding
projects that could be categorized as minimal, from ambient
to tech house... for a long time, an australian radio dj
referred to MY stuff as minimalist, which I thought was
funny and completely off the wall... whatever rocks your
boat I guess...

a number of those have zero to do with minimal techno, but
nice list anyway.

I'm not completely disagreeing with that, but the last.fm
minimal tehcno tag list would beg to differ.

Who are you referring to?

alex smoke certainly doesnt make minimal techno, neither do
ellen allien, tejada, plastikman, hawtin, bug, vath and
pretty sure about villalobos too.

as far as i know those are all 'straight techno' artists,
with hawtin tending to have a few minimalist tendencies, but
a lot of it is acid techno as well.

a good example of minimal techno would be robert hood. check
out some samples of his to get the idea.

and then you'll find that robert hood does other styles of
techno as well.

so nevermind i said anything.

yea it's tough innit

most of old school detroit for example would today classify
as minimal

I know Sven Vath, Villalobos and Plastikman all make stuff
pretty close to minimal techno.

Anyway, a track I like that I think is minimal techno is:

Scirocco by Daze Maxim.

we must have no deviation from rigidly enforced genre
boundaries! the very idea makes me SICK

Mika Vainio - Tulkinta

I still listen to it from time to time, but don't like it as
I used to. People at work sometimes mistake the sounds from
my headphones for server ups beep :)

Heard one track by Mitchell Akiyama, seems it can be
classified as minimal techno.

Wish I kept up with more of this stuff, hear it on nights
out and on mix CD-Rs without having a clue who's making the
actual tracks. I like that guy Audion, though.
