I remember buying this a few years ago and thinking it was
a solid EP. Since then, it has matured into something else
entirely. It's tracks like this which prove CC is simply in
a league of his own. Utterly beautiful, and a journey from
start to finish.

His remix work is also amazing. So which is your favourite
CC track then?

Good track from a classic ep! I'm more into both versions of
Darkness, which are the more obvious picks - admittedly too
obvious.

I like his older and weirder tracks the best. In those days
there wasn't any label you could put on his music. It wasn't
real techno. IDM didn't exist yet. Ambient neither. Triphop,
what? Tracks like "no more words", "free your mind",
"neurotic behavior", "please stand by", "galaxy". Those are
all awesome tracks which I think definitely still sound as
good as they did almost 20 years (!!) ago, if not better. 20
friggin years.

On a tangent: I'm worried. Brisk, we agree too much.

I think you've explained exactly why I like his music so
much. He has just the right degree of experimentation in his
tracks to give seperation from "traditional" techno, without
becoming too weird that it isolates the listener.

I think my favourite CC track is either At Les or Desire. I
do like the full-length version of The Climax a lot too,
mainly because that breakdown is on another level entirely.
A few tracks from the Psyche/BFC compilation album are also
fantastic, especially How The West Was Won.

Basically, he's just a superb artist.

since 95-97, i'm a big fan of his first albums
(landcruising/more songs..), he's one of my favorite artist,
i'm not crazy about his jazz tracks, but at les, he was
trying something else. you can dl many of his remixes (wav
format) from juno.
how the west was won is perfect. try his remix of "problems
de l'amour". + dont miss out the first "urban tribe" lp on
mo'wax (collab with dj stingray + shake).

how do you pronounce craig?

my uncle was convinced that daniel craig would be pronounced
'crayg' instead of 'creg'. i however, was not.

thanks for the hint. never heard these urban tribe albums
(two on rephlex, lol).

thanks to this thread i decided to buy that paperclip people
album he made. and damn me, i should have bought it years
ago when i had the opportunity. it is going around for a lot
of money these days.
it sounded a bit too clubby for my tastes back then. now it
just sounds sexy in a slick clubby way :)

ah, thats funny, i thought exactly the same about paperclip
people years ago (too clubby, ministry of sound type of
stuff) :
i remember seeing "the secret tapes of.." in a record shop
& my mate told me to buy it "'coz its carl craig" but i was
like "no way". huge regrets as it became hard to find
(probably because of the samples). i had to wait for years
before getting it on ebay. & its really great.

try to catch his (bootleg) remix of once in a lifetime.

I like everything he does and I can't work out what it is he
does that's so special. Which is probably why it's so
special. Or I'm just a fucking deaf wad.
