Battles

So I went to their gig a little controversed 'cause they
are those kind of band that makes Warp Records less and less
electronic. Fuck off, impostors!

But they rock! Battles are amazing. I had listened to their
album before and found great, but now I am even convinced
they are not that bad for my favorite IDM label.

Who else have seen them live? What's wrong with their
singer?

not seen, liked the album if ya care... Actually I'm kinda
disappointed I don't hate all these "impostors", these
acoustic party boys, as much as I expected. ELECTRONIC
WHAT'S THAT??

battles are hecka electronic with all the looping, synths
and apple computers they use.

anyway, i saw them live a couple weeks ago at a sold-out
show at lee's palace and they were incredible. i was sitting
on the stool in the middle right behind the dance floor. it
was so intense i could barely move. when the drummer first
started up i could feel my heartbeat being rearranged. epic
stuff.

also love how absolutely drenched in sweat they were.

i've listened to the album a few times but it totally didnt
do anything for me. and this had nothing to do with any warp
bias you might be thinking of.

cool, the album downloaded very swiftly--and I didn't start
the download until Futurama: The Movie finished... I'll burn
it tomorrow morning and listen to it whilst working.

I only listened to the track "Atlas", and i didnt really
like it at all. Can anyone reccomend another that will win
me over?

trueish, that, but you know i'd like to separate faux
electronic like battles, radiohead and - hell - linkin park
from our good friends who vamp it up with da 808's and
303's...

maybe those people don't exist (neither of those kinds of
groups I describe), but I like to wallow in some weird
idealism of puritanism

they are mind blowing live, never seen band members work so
hard for a sound, as said above they're literally dripping
in sweat for teh whole gig. they must be super fit. there
is always so much going on, bah what a great band.

on a side note we stole their towels wrote a battles
inspired song about it called 'battles towel'. werrd.

jeez. watching some live vids.
it may be respectable? or something that all the members are
sweaty and getting into it, but that isnt a good enough
reason to get me listening to music that sounds like ass.
still dont get it :P

im in the lucky position that i appreciate hoe hard the work
and the energy of their live show and i also love the music,
what a shame you don't like them.

DP: Get Lleyendecker. That's the catchiest tune on the
album.

all in all, the album is pretty decent, but faaairly
overhyped. i really don't mind warp releasing rock/whatever,
so i'm not insulted. i'm sad they don't release as much
electronic stuff anymore though, i think a bit of balance
would be good! i still adore them for bringing gravenhurst
to my attention though, that's some of the best music that
warp has ever released and totally up there in quality with
all the 'primary' electronic artists.

i agree it's being overhyped, though there are couple of
nice tunes on it

gravenhurst, battles, !!! ... not a bad cadre after all...

although I think Warp should split already into sub-labels
or something...

If you look at Netwerk which first released Skinny Puppy,
they eventually found out they could actually make MONEY
with stuff like Sarah Mclahgclekfin , GOB, and Avril
Lavign.

Guys from warp should just release online. Honestly I think
they are scared that some 16 year old kid with fruity loops
is going to pwn the shit out of their work.
