some reviewer called the SMD album "Temporary Pleasure" as
"just a showcase for the production abilities of James
Ford"

the guy didn't mean it as a compliment, but i thought: he's
magnificent

synthesize
pinball

some random youtube comment, "the sounds are just so godly
clear," and yep. then the same reviewer with the above
comment, commented on the helixing in pinball, yep

...but he did rock music before, never really cared to check
it out. and to hear he's signed to warp for rock,
should you be accurate, does not particularly interest me
either. in fact, what you linked seems thoroughly on the
"let's try to make music as moody and dull as pink floyd"

Golly, who knew there was a market for an ersatz Pink Floyd
Magnetic Fields. This shit needs to be heard.

i think james ford does a lot of cocaine. i'm not judging;
it seems to work

nevermind that; sorry. i'm really just saying what i feel

i was thinking, though. i was complaining in one of my
threads i'm posting music, like -- phrasing it better here,
then i did there -- i need someone who really knows what
they're doing to just utterly tear into this pile of tracks
and make a very firm list of what i am doing wrong. and
hell. if the guy had a half hour, he'd probably be perfect.

mix-wise, i mean. frequencies. transients. etc.
actual composition not the question. questionable as it may
be

it's tough to even define my problem(s). i grew up with a
soundblaster 16 and i kind of like the warmness of a
mid-range mud. but i am forever arguing with myself about...
eq, multiband comp, 150-300hz? dfghjk

then the bass, i need to roll some of this off, but i don't
quite... standard solutions don't fit

cloud of comments going from 2-10khz

then, really, given how i do, what should my compressor
approach be? on top of the EQ hangups?

i am getting good enough that tracks sound reasonably loud,
that they barely have to be normalized; not even compressed.
or at least, it doesn't sound too out of place. but no,
there's something with EQ, compression, it's there but i'm
just smashing my hed against the wall

good luck with pink droid.

LAZY_TITLE ~ oh that'd help

first two, didn't actually do much to them. eq, maybe a
little compress
third an earlier take where raw mix wasn't as good; would
like to clean it up
fourth an earlier take where raw mix wasn't as good; i tried
to clean it up. it certainly feels more present on
headphones. but probably good if you want to be all "no,
nope, not quite there"

for anyone bored really, suppose
