it does sound amazing. checked it out some time ago.
loaded up some downlded tracks aswell to see what its like.
i find the process of creating instruments in tracker
software quite time consuming and not as fun as tweaking my
usb knobs and pressing chords on the keyboard.

anyway i was wondering since fm synthesis seems to be
getting more attention these days, if there there are kind
of albums with that specific sound i was speaking of. like
pinball beeps, warps and smashing metallic stuff.

kind of like this

while the sounds may have been created differently on that
track (im not half the gearhead i should be) i kind of
wished for a hybrid of that tracks poise with some of
this

I always have to emulate that with Dos games that support
it!

ha,
i was thinking of specifically excluding sierra adventures
from the post.
mt32looks like a fun gadget for retro gaming.
wonder if any musicians we know toyed with it.
but i was more thinking of the OPL FM sound.
i have an old soundblaster Live! with midi interface but i
read it doesnt feature any OPL chip. also an even older
soundblaster that might have it but no midi interface:/

to make matters worse i even budgeted out the chance to get
a midi interface along my ESI Maya44 soundcard years ago :(
which are out of sale by now, obviously.

goodness gracious, now i remember why i didnt try to make
any music in that tracker. takes a lot of effort to get into
programming that sob. respect to everyone who does it.

Alex Mauer,
its the person who released an album via NES Cart!
heard about this on a retro games and music event,
three years ago. great track in that link btw. love it when
chiptunes go all "epic journey" style. love it when ceephax
goes there too. feels so uplifting.
level 8 on blast is great too, quite the funk.

don't know anything about him.

Just remembered those tunes from very long ago, and
remembered it had that soundblaster/adlib vibe.

I once tried using a dos tracker thing but found it
uncomfortably difficult to work with.

have you tried other tracker soft?
it looks much less complicated after watching a tutorial
video. i found once you get the shortcuts it is possible to
work with them. however it takes time and patience and after
working with Buzz (which at least featured mouse support)
and LSDJ (on actual gameboys/snes) i dont happily embrace
the option of learning another ones commands and menu
structure. thus my initial reaction to the adlick tracker
re-download.

yes I have, started with buzz, did a bit of milkytracker and
settled with Renoise, which is now my main "DAW"

can't remember the name of the dos software but it was
actually in dos

shit, the only program i ever used in dos was
dos commander. always have been awfully proud i was able to
write customized cache assignments and startup commands into
batch files.

anyhow re-ran adlibtracker 2 today.
initially labeled my keyboard with old inkjet labels and a
pen. i forget shortcuts instantly and since the program
solely relies on these kinds of commands your doomed if you
dont pick that shit up to navigate quickly.
still not sure wether its going to be worth the hassle, but
maybe i can learn something from the experince altogether.
creating arpeggios and copying instruments to alter is
giving me a headache.

I think that was likely why I couldn't get anything done
