multiple people, Jar... multiple people
korben: i agree, that's the best solution (they'd get full profits and we'd get the full catalogue to choose from pretty much), however that's not till 2003 at the earliest. in the meantime why not email these sites to get them to make some cd's available? i'm not narrowing it down to large corporations, i encourage people to email any online retailer. i'm just really tired of being faced with the choice of either nothing or extremely marked up imports.

titsworth: i guess .. but like mr. J, i too can generally find what i'm looking for, only a few items like that cosmic forces and such are hard to find. So to be honest, i'm probably not quite as motivated as yourself to write them emails.
2003 isn't that far away?

Seems to me you're trying to change the system... well good luck boyo, you'll need it. More than anyone I bet you realise that it's a pretty big undertaking to try and change what stores stock and consider worth selling.... like you said, you live in a town (D.C. is a town? Excuse my ignorance) and to even get major IDM releases must be satisfactory. I mean, I live in the second biggest city in my country and they stock a lot of IDM but I have no idea who actually buys and listens to it, whereas every other form of music has an obvious visual point - I ain't against electronic music reaching more people but I think that it has a very limited selling value, the hardcore fans will sell out the initial releases and you have to accept that compared to the new Robbie Williams album it isn't gonna get the push that it deserves.

i live in washington, dc (capital of the united states) but attend school in rural pennsylvania. i have no problem finding idm cd's in dc, but trouble finding anything at all of interest here at school (hence my reliance on BN.com -- great prices, free shipping).
yes i'm trying to change the system. however i haven't asked in my emails for places to "stock" the cd's (i'm trying to be nice to splodgechops, i still don't understand what's wrong about asking though) just that i want them. i think if more people actually took the 5 minutes to follow the email links 35 messages ago we COULD get some planet mu cd's on those sites.
i just looked thru bentcrayon.com and found a lot of nice stuff (including cosmic forces of mu). however, their prices are more than i'm used to (about $3 more per cd than i've become accustomed to paying) PLUS they have s&h charges (dunno what those are yet, and again i'm used to free s&h). however, it's important to me to pay for the cd's so i'm gonna narrow down my choices and order from there until the bigger sites start stocking cd's or planet mu has a mart.

Well good luck, however asking major outlets to accomodate personal taste is usually a thankless and pointless task and unless you get a massive following it probably won't happen - think about it - 2000 members on this board, Aphex's average sales for each album 50,000, compare that to Eminem or Staind or even Korn and it looks bleak. But I support you and remember, I am eternally pessimistic ;)

it's not like stores though.. these sites already carry loads of idm, including selections from the planet mu catalogue. i (and hopefully other people who've carried this out) am just requesting some more.

fugazi had sold over a million albums (total, not a single release) as of 1998
if you want those figures you'll need to pay a hefty yearly fee.. soundscan figures aren't open to the public

million still seems high to me for fugazi, i figured not even half of that for total. if you think about it 13 songs and repeater are the only really good selling fugazi albums, steady diet---->end hits sold not nearly as well, end hits i assume is the worst selling one, seems the least user friendly as well. it is my favorite one matter of fact too
whats your favorite fugazi album? also what do you think of q and not u? i cant stand them.

the million plus is confirmed. ian mackaye is a friend of a friend. the band has a worldwide following, it's probably closer to 1.5 million by now.
i liked q and not u for a while but they wore out their welcome with me.. a little gimmicky. they were pretty good live but i was the only person in the audience who didn't know the crowd response gestures in the songs. fav fugazi album, hmm.. 13 songs or maybe the argument.

q and not u are like a bunch of college kids, oh my god i cant stand looking at theyre album cover, listening to their atrocious lyrics and they look so not dischord looking, should have never been released on dischord if you ask me and on like jade tree or some label with bands like the promise ring or get up kids. faraquet were\are so much better than q and not u anyways.

i think it's worth a email to these organizations to have them TRY to stock some of the lesser known artists and make them available to the general music buying peepz.
i agree supporting the smaller record stores is a good thing, but they usually only have one copy of some of these groups as well!
