Im not trying to be a hardcore harry-defender here. Im not saying that you are childish yourself, just that that is the attitude you are showing in your posts. It just has a ring of "middle-school lunchroom" to it... Harry potter is written by an adult, meaning that even if it is written for children, other adults can probably enjoy it. Hell, I would enjoy a novel written by a child. Any piece of writing can be an interesting insight into something. Im not trying to say your bad because you dont like harry potter, I just dont think you have to go make fun about it when other people obviously enjoy it, meaning that it probly has some merit.
i sound like a schoolteacher. sorry.

how could i be so blind and not se the brilliance of harry potter! i mean a book about a little boy with magic powers cant be bad.. i bet there is talking animals in it too, right? please say there is talking animals in it too!
wanker..
"I just dont think you have to go make fun about it when other people obviously enjoy it, meaning that it probly has some merit. "
yeah, i agree that it could have some merit, for a 4-11 year old perhaps..

well you do seem to be close-minded Gubb.. I agree, Potter isn't literature - its not written very well and the story itself, although entertaining, isn't structured very well..
but you seem to be dismissing it for the reason that its a childrensbook.
which makes you the wanker.

Oh theres talking animals in it, have no fear.
or maybe you could read it and find out before you make fun of it.
or maybe you have, if so, sorry for that assumption.
I wansnt trying to hurt your feelings, Gubb. I just think that you shouldnt dismiss things as utter shit just because you dont like it. If it has merit for 4? - 11 year olds then it can have merit for anyone. I ejoyed harry potter, i did think it was simplistic. It was obviously written with children in mind. It didnt keep me awake at night. But it was still a good, fun story, and while i wouldnt put it in the same class as Tolkien, i think that saying "i cant respect annyone who has read any
harry poter books. " is a bit close-minded.

yeah, i agree, if one are mentaly between 4-11 or have perverse fantasys about tea parties with small boys and talking animals or just a bit retarded one could probably enjoy it..
nah, perhaps i should stop it. i havent actually read the book and never will.
its not just the book at such im against its as much everything around it. i fucking hate commercials showing that crap everywhere. harry potter is the mcDonalds of books (someone compared it to fast food allready, i know). its not a book its a product. you could take any book in the same catagory as harry potter and advertise it and it would sell just as much.
easily digested culture for shallow people, sheep-people. i fucking despise it.

ah you despise the commercialisation of the book. I agree on that, its pretty disgusting. and I do think the books are pretty overhyped.
still, I did read the first part. so I would suggest first reading one of the books before going on and on how evil they are. makes you look really dumb and ignorant.

Gubb, im in agreement with you as well. The commercial aspect of it is disgusting (not to mention harry potter sex toys). I disliked the idea of a movie. But i dont think That Rowling wrote the book with the hype in mind (i may be wrong). So i feel that the book still has some merit, even though everything surrounding it turns me off. (or on, as was the case with the broom-vibrator). anyways.... nevermind.

Mush: "But i dont think That Rowling wrote the book with the hype in mind (i may be

ive read somewhere when harry potter first poped up that she wrote the book mainly because she had alot of spare time since she was unemployed and living on welfare and was hoping to make some money of it mainly... anyway, she is a complete sellout and i see no reason to respect her artistic quality (if she has any).

because you are making assumptions based on other peoples opinions and have made your mind up without even reading the book.
I think its okay to read reviews and articles and then decide you'd probably not like it. but thats not what can be read in most of your posts in this thread.
criticizing the books without reading any, that really seems ridiculous to me.

i did not base my assumptions one the reviewers oppinion since the reviewer liked the book and i dont. i have based my views on the book on what i know about the book, not oppinions about the book. i know the book is a childrens book about a little boy with magical powers who goes in some kind of magic school or wathever, and there is talking animals in it and proboably fairys and dwarfs and trolls and evil that must be overcome which, will be overcome. alas, i know enough to class it as a waste of my time.. see?

yes. if you'd reread the message just above yours, I already said thats okay ofcourse. but you've been saying stuff like:
"it would be great! but continue to read childrens literature if you want to. keep the stupid stupid.. "
"yeah, i agree, if one are mentaly between 4-11 or have perverse fantasys about tea parties with small boys and
talking animals or just a bit retarded one could probably enjoy it.. "
which are all based on assumptions of the book you seem to have. and they are assumptions, based on secondhand information. from those assumptions you then make assumptions about the people who read the books.
this all combined, is what makes that the behaviour of a sheep.
the whole negative thing about childerens literature pisses me off, I guess.

well, childrens literature is often called childrens literature because its for children. and childrens are in general stupid, so why read books that are for children when you can read "real" books?
the majority of grownups dont walk around in diapers or suck on passifers (except ravers..) so why should one read childrens literature? its beyond me.
"from those assumptions you then make assumptions about the people who read the books"
i have meet quite a few people who has read the book and then adding what type of magazines/websites that have giving it good reviews or wrote positive articles about, and from that i can extract the statistics needed to make the assumptions about the people reading the book. so in my mind my assumptions are valid. they may not fit everyone, but they fit the majority.

well, its like when your at school and you learn how to multiply numbers then you learn how to do equations and then you learn trigonometry. you dont go back and learn how two multiply numbers when you are done with trigonometry. i read childrens literature when i was a child, i dont see why i should read it now.
oh, and by the way, the book is about A LITTLE SNOTNOSE BOY WITH MAGIC POWERS WHO GOES TO A MAGIC SCHOOL AND IT HAS SCARY MONSTERS AND TALKING ANIMALS IN IT! so if you call me childish for calling the people who read that book childish. .well, then that is your problem.
