I don't think anything will ever be able to top the original
Doom in terms of the sheer terror it evoked. I remember
playing it late one night all alone in the house - It was
the first time I ever got to the final chapter, the one with
all the skewered heads and giant pentagrams and that really
harrowing music. Anyway, you know when you get shivers down
your spine? I got those and they wouldn't stop! Wave after
wave up and down my back, it felt like I was getting a
massage from the grim reaper! I was so scared I shut the
computer off and unplugged it then I ran into the bathroom,
locked the door, jumped in the bathtub and pulled the
curtain shut. I sat there crying and praying to God for an
hour until my mom came home and saved me..

any of you guys ever hear of a game called ZPC? It looks
like an evil jesus type doom game! I wanna give it a try
cause the charactors are made by the artist who does the
KMFDM album covers.

you are weird !!!!!....

but the original doom made me want to hurl on many
occasions... to this day i dont know why... i would turn it
of when my stomache started churning then play it again the
next day..

ZPC... never herd of it but i very much want to see the
characters cause i love the KMFDM covers and clips

Yeah, I've played it. Gameplay was so so but the graphical
style that permeated it was something else... Psychadelic
Nazi Germany.

Oscillik: Blair Witch Project scared the crap out of me
too..

I honestly think Doom 3 will set a new standard for shoot?em
ups. Have you seen that Final Fantasy flick? When games get
to look like that, i?ll happily go and BUY them myself..

If your running 2000 or XP then right click the shortcut and
go into properties. There's a part on one of the TABS that
is called Compatibility mode. You can set it to Win '95.
Should work then.

>binaural tea

glad someone agrees with me! everyone i speak to irl say
it's crap! lol

DOOM III is gonna have to be a bit more innovative though,
with the gameplay....but then again, what else could you do
with a FPS other than have craploads of baddies to shoot?

i'm not trying to slate it or anything, it's just that the
likes of Half-Life, and AvP 2 made me think "maybe id ISN'T
the daddy of shoot em ups"
lol

"the
likes of Half-Life, and AvP 2 made me think "maybe id ISN'T

the daddy of shoot em ups"
well, technically, they ARE,right?
And personally i think halflife and avp2 wont have anything
to add when doom3 comes out. my expectations are high
regarding this game.

>binaural tea

well, yeah, but maybe i used the wrong wording

what i meant to say was for years, i'd only play doom,
quake, quake 2

i'd only play games that were ID games......then half-life
came along, and the ID games started gathering dust on my
hard drive (figuratively speaking)
then i went back to good old ID.....then i discovered AvP
2........need i say more really?

lol

i'm probably never going to get to play it
though!!!!!!!!!!!! lol

Anyone know of anything other than the Macworld footage
being available. I'd love to see it just running being
played. The Macworld stuff was apparently being run on
GeForce 3 which I find surprising but it remains to be seen.

"Early indications suggest that the target system for Doom 3
will be a 700 mhz system with 128 megabytes of RAM and a
"high-end" video card (assumably GeForce-level or higher).
However, these specs are very tentative and will probably
change multiple times. There will probably be versions
released for Windows, Linux, and Mac."

I am spending a huge amount of graphics horsepower to allow
the engine to be flexible in ways that game engines have
never been before. It is a little scary to drop down from
the ultra-high frame rates we are used to with Q3, but I
firmly believe that the power of the new engine will enable
a whole new level of game content.
I am hoping that the absolute top-of-the-line system
available when the game ships will be capable of running it
with all features enabled and anti-aliasing on at 60hz, but
even the fastest cards of today are going to have to run at
fairly low resolutions to get decent frame rates. Many will
choose to drop a feature or two to get some speed back, but
they still won't be able to get near 60hz.

Remember, the game won't ship for a long time yet, and
today's cards will seem a bit quaint by then.

Strange. I'm using Win2K here and it has that. Try making a
shortcut to the file then right click. It should actually be
a tab called compatibility. Maybe it's the version of 2K
though. There's about 4 I think.

Tell a lie. Are you using NTFS for the file system? That
could be the problem. If you partitioned a part of your
drive and converted it to FAT32 maybe that'd help. I can't
promise anything though.

offline Jimmy James from Burnaby (Canada) on 2002-10-17 02:25 [#00406549]

nope! Im on fat32 :( thanks for the help! I actually might
just install win95 on a spare drive just to check this game
out! I love the artist who came up with the charactors...
plus it looks very simple just shoot everyone!

Probably your best option mate. Shame that you have to do
that but that's the way Microsoft like to run things.

they?ll probably optimize the engine further until the
release, it could have impact on the overall experience of
the game but maybe one doesnt have to get a cray to be able
to run it.
