Help with stereo system/computer

I got a big stereo system for Christmas, and if I can, I
want to hook it up the the computer because the speakers are
much better than the multimedia ones.

On the back of it, its says ''Aux In'' and there's two
holes, ''left'' and ''right''. How do I go about connecting
it the the CPU, if it's even possible? I might have to buy
some wires.

You will have to buy cables. I'm assuming that the aux in is
two phono sockets. You'll need to connect the headphone
socket of your soundcard to the two aux-in sockets of your
amp. So you need a male headphone to two-male phono cable.
Maybe they call them something different in Canada. I'll try
to find a pic

Use one of these and connect it to where your
current computer speakers are connected. Then put your sound
system into aux mode and hey presto, beefy sounds. and it's
a surround system you won't want to play those dodgy 128k
mp3s any more.

...*IF* it's a surround system...

Absolutely fabulous, merci beaucoup! Nah, it's not a
surround, it's just some normal everyday big ass speakers.
And all my favorite MP3s are 192k or up. ;-) Thanks, Cleo.

You could even plug your stereo system into the 'line out'
socket if your sound card has one. Mine has 'Rear Speakers'
option so I use that. That way you can use the computer
speakers as well, and balance the sound.

Hmm... I bought the, ahem, ''shielded Y adaptor'', but I'm
not getting any sound.

My soundcard has three holes in the back, the one I plug my
speakers into, and two others that are labelled with two
microphone thingys.

What does Exceque mean by ''sound system in auxilary mode''?
Whuddafuck? What do I do? Help!

Yes, use the line out. It's better for speakers than
headphones.

I'm linking my decks to my PC (as it has better speakers
than my hi-fi) next weekend so I'll need to do something
similair.

Come out of your soundcards line out with your 1/8" then
plug the left and right RCA plugs into the Auxillary input
of your stereo. Make sure your stereo is set on 'Aux' (not
cd or tape, etc.) so you can hear it.

OK! Finally I got it working! Thank you one and all! I guess
I'm really going to notice the horridness of 128kbs MP3s
now.
