Sound Cards!!

ok, im getting a new sound card

i have a few hundred canadian dollars to spend, so its
basically between the Audigy 2 (TWO!) Platinum, and the
TerraTec DMX 6fire 24/96

.....these are the only 2 cards ive been able to find in
this price with a front panel

can you guys recommend other cards in this price range? (a
couple hundred american dollars or less)

btw the audigy TWO DOES support 'true' 24 bit 96 khz sound,
unlike the audigy 1.... (although apparently to record in 24
bit increases the latency slightly, it can still be done,
and the sound can be processed in full 24 bit every step of
the way)
...ive read a comparisson review of the terratec and the
audigy 1 platinum, and it said the terratec was obviously
much better for sound/music work because of the true 24 bit
sound among other things...
....but now that the audigy 2 matches that and has improved
signal to noise ratios and such...

.....AAAAND: it seems that the audigy has significantly
better MIDI capabilities (the tarratec uses a software midi
synth), so i dunno...
(i do want to get a midi keyboard soon to play with soft
synths, and ill want to control my guitar's effects
processor with MIDI aswell, so i think that would be pretty
important)

....also, the audigy has a much more powerful integrated DSP
for sound effects and processing than the terratec, which
only has a few basic pre-defined effects
ill be using effects and processing stuff a lot more than
recording audio, so i think that'll be important

.......are there any factors im overlooking?

any info, thoughts, recommendations etc would be greatly
appreciated thanks

www.m-audio.com check out the audiophile 24/96
its cheap, doesnt have a front panel but it has gold plated
rca in/out and a spdif/midi breakout cable
the best cart you can get in the $200-300 CDN price range

That looks like one sweet little card! Wonder if there are
linux drivers for it.

Well it does have linux drivers apparently, so I went out
and got one. Got it set up in Windows so far.

The analog input is great, which is exactly what I got it
for--so I could sequence midi tracks and record the audio
back from my keyboard through the 'puter.

When you're not playing anything the card is DEAD QUIET. I'm
impressed.

More later. Busy wanking.

Good card!
