I had a go on a "proper" hi-fi this weekend. Absolutely
incredible system- Marantz valve CD player, valve amps,
katono pre amp, Klipsch 15" Speakers, gyrodeck turntable.
Custom built cartridge. All earthed, dampened by granite,
tiny points of contact between layers of the stack. Isolated
motor and arm on the record deck. Absolutley amazing sound
quality.

The music I played on it sounded so much better- Mt. St,
Michaels was superb.

Anyway, the main point is that I now agree that vinyl is
better than CD (albeit only on good systems...). The yguy
whose system it was played a cream cd & vinyl of the same
song in synch switching between the two. The CD sounded so
much "flater" and dead and there wasn't the range of
frequency response either.

I used to think vinyl was just better for scratching etc.,
but this has changed my opinion completely. Apologies to any
vinyl fans I have argued with here in the past. I admit that
I was wrong.

Yeah, well I'm just gonna route the audio from my CD player
through a little box that boosts the bass and adds some
warming fuzz, plus a few clicks and pops for good measure.

Ah, I used to have the same attitude...

Admittedley vinyl can only be adding warm distorition, but
it does sound, so much better thsn CD on a good
system.

Damn straight vinyl is better. Bring on the 70's revolution
(I have no idea why that's part of this).
