many artists have released live cd's in the last year,.. none of which have been very impressive as far as I'm concerned, these include
Radiohead - I might be wrong Nine Inch Nails - and all that could have been Underworld - everything everything
now,. I've managed to grab quite a few live mp3's of these particular artists in my time, and I think that I can safely say that rather than encompasing the best feats of the band can do as a live act, all of these releases are more of a "best of" or "most popular" re-release of old songs,.. which I think is a HUGE letdown top the sort of people that would truly appreciate releases like this,
if anybody had heard some of the awesome stuff that underworld can do live, they would be completely shattered by the time "everything everything" was released,..
because as far as the talent of the band is concerned, this displays NOTHING of what they are capable of, fans at the rtsr.org forums were so disappointed that they made their own version of "everything everything" called "bootleg babies" which,. is far, far better, and encompases their best work they have ever done,
the new nine inch nails live cd, whilst being awesome,. also suffers from the same thing,. I have a few recorded sets from the fragility tour, and I would have preferred them to release a straight bootleg of one of the concerts as apposed to the "best of, live" cd that they released, (respect to NIN for including "still" with it though)
Radiohead's "I might be wrong" is a bit of an anomoly, the fact that this cd actually had a nice DIFFERENT version of spinning plates automatically improve the quality of this release, and then by including the live only "true love waits" it finishes on a high note,. the rest of the cd still suffers from the other stereotypes, I also have plenty of live material of theirs,. and I'd say that this cd is on the mid/point of what they are capable of,..
however,... tool's "salival" is an example of a good live cd release, they went through

however,... tool's "salival" is an example of a good live cd release, they went through and looked for exactly what makes their live act so enjoyable, and tried to encompass it onto the cd.
the cd included studio versions of "live only" songs,.. and the best versions of their other songs recorded off the master and polished up, this was a cd for the fans, and lets face it,. only fans are going to buy a bands live cd.
I think that my major argument is that ALL of these bands do incredible work live, but don't display any of it on their live cds,. which I think is what they are meant for.

I like the cd too,. but I'll take ANY concert bootleg over that cd anyway, I've never heard a single underworld concert where they HAVEN'T played something that tops everything else on their live cd,..
I'll find a link for you

after listening to these tracks I'll think you'll agree that underworlds "everything everything" was pretty lame as far as their live act goes

i tend to only fuck with live shit if the songs sound different. ex:
new arrangement guest musicians extended version major error (this can be fun or funny)
the nin live album is too polished (dvd is much better) but it DOES show lots of different arrangements. the radiohead live ep is cool too for this reason. same w/ the 1998 eels live album. i can't think of too many other good live cd's though. usually these are just easy ways to turn a profit while the artist kicks back or maybe begins to think about his or her next album.

It's 1997, refund. Yeah that is a good cd though.
Another great live cd is Built to Spill - Live. Awesome live band, much better than in the studio. Their live version of Neil Young's Cortez the Killer is amazing.
