I am taking control of the drum machine

My mom is going to buy me a drum machine for christmas. And
it cant be too expensive...

I was looking at these:

Korg Electribe R

Yamaha DX200 (its a fm synth but has some rhythm sounds)

Boss DR 202

Boss DR 707

---

These all look like awesome machines....

I have a Korg EM... so I dont know if I want to get the ER
that badly......

the DX200 looks like it has more bang for the buck

I have loads of vst and custom effects... so its not really
an issue of having wierd glitchy sounds or anything... I am
just looking for an all around machine...

I think I like the DR - 202 and the DX200 the best... anyone
have one of these? I tried them all out at the guitar
center... they are both awesome... I cant choose... what do
you guys think?

My best friend has the BOSS dr-880, or whatever the doctor
rhythm model number is. It's so fun to mess around w/ that
thing. I've written some loops for him.

Hmm, as far as drums go I would suggest sticking to
computers and finding samples. The computer can create far
more complicated beats, and at greater ease. If you want
hardware, make it synthesis hardware. ;)

offline Mickey Mouse from The Moon on 2002-12-02 22:04 [#00465758]

Yea Diao I know what you mean, but samples can take you only
so far.... I just spend all my time on the computer... It
would be nice to have a drum machine and be able to take it
to a friends house, or at school (I dont have a laptop yet
:*( ..... ).

The DX200 is an synth using FM synthesis and you can tweak it and get some drum sounds
with it.. I am kinda leaning toward this one....

In fact I think I might just choose this one.... or a
minidisc recorder.....

AARRRRGGGGHHHHH... decisions suck

well what do you know, this thread applies both to my
avatar... and to me!

I have both the DR202, and the DR770

ok. first... what do you want?

you said you dont need glitched out stuff. Good. because
these arnt gonna give you that.

The dr202 is pretty dance oriented. Modern sounds...
synthisized drums etc. Not too good for realistic drums
sounds... but good for electronic music for sure.

the dr770 has real drum sounds, and is not good for
electronic drum sounds.

So its basically what do you want/need?

and I am also selling both of them, if you are interested in
used equipment.

(they work fine... i just dont use them anymore. I have
totally buried myself in software. I like having lots and
lots of control over my sounds)

hope this helped.

if you are interested in buying from me... email me at
kcinsu@kcinsu.com and we can chat about it.

:) cheers

I've got the BOSS DR-202 & the other Yamaha AN-200

i like the DR202 for being a kickin drum machine & i LOVE
the AN200 for being a sweet ass synthesizer :) just plug in
a midi controller keyboard and yer set to start tweaking :)

both are cheap instruments if you search around, like on
ebay... the dr202 is like 400 or something out of a retail
shop.. but on ebay i got mine for about 250 :) not bad...
not bad at all :)

the dr770 has 255 sounds, not only natural percussion, it's
an allrounder dm, except the intern sequencer ... i like it,
and the pattern play mode makes it easy to use at live
gigs...

ide be going the DX200, just because ide be more inclined to
want more synth sounds than anything.

i had the korg ER-1, but traded it in on a k station. its a
good drum synth. you can make your own drum sounds from
scratch + its got a decent step sequencer. i never used the
sequencer as i was just running it from fruityloops.

i now use a soft synth for all my drum sounds. "drum dragon"
its easier to use, seems to make better sounds, and it was
free.

personally ide get more use from the DX200 but i suppose it
just depends what your after.

I am going to go to the guitar center right now and check
out the DX200 and the 202 agian and see which one I like
best.

The es1 looks cool, but I dont really need a sampler... the
computer is like the utlimate sampling tool, especially if
you use Kontakt and the new sampler in reason 2.0.

The black one is the EM-1 its a cool little box, I use it
alot

i have the 202 and still love it although i dont use it
anymore. its a great drum machine. nice tweakable sounds.
lots of electro can be made. run it through a distorsion
pedal and you can get some pretty fun stuff.
