yeah flea should try as many labels as you can pay postage
for.. I'll be starting to send out demo's next month, when I
have the aformentioned money..

this is a good place for adresses:

wecowd labels

and now I'll d/l the track..

btw, when you start sending out demo's, would you mind
sending me one? that would be cool as banf!

offline Zeus from San Francisco (United States) on 2002-11-29 15:06 [#00461541]

seriously.

i mean, the worst thing they could say is "you suck, dont
ever send us a demo again." and if they said that... they
are fucking assholes, and you dont want to waste your time
with assholes.

but its highly unlikely. Ive listened to your music, and
theres no way in hell theyd say that. The worst they would
say, imo, is "it needs work"

but the great thing is... you go work on your music more...
send it later...and they will remember you... and they will
be like "wow, this guy is really improving". and maybe they
still wont sign you... but then you just keep doing that,
and eventually they will, because they will see you are:
a. dedicated
b. improving

yeah what you are saying makes perfect sense..I have been a
bit reluctant because of my experience a couple of years
back sending pencil art to Comic Companies..they cost me a
lot..(the size of the pages etc)..in the US..and I didnt get
a single acknowledgement that they were even received by
anyone..so all of that went into the black hole :(

some advice from Warp..

SOME HINTS AND GUIDELINES.

Remember that you are sending in a DEMO, not a finished
sequenced album, ie. you need to put your absolute best
standout track first, then follow with the other tracks
which best display the sort of music that you make and that
we may be most interested in. Don’t have a 10 minute
wobbly synth intro (for example) on the first track, as most
peoples interest tends to waver.....
Include as many tracks as you want, but put the best ones
first – this is the single most important factor in
getting your music listened to.

If we like what we hear, then you will be contacted – if
only to say “please send us more”. We do not acknowledge
receipt of demos, return them, nor offer any criticisms - we
are busy enough as it is!

and from Mike P at Planet Mu..

"..Also, please don't send the kind of demos which are
accompanied by letters stating "...I just started making
this idm stuff last month and these are my first tracks,
they're kinda shitty but I thought I'd send 'em anyway..."
FUCK OFF. If we are prepared to invest a certain amount of
time & money in releasing your pitiful electronic burps and
squiggles, then at least send us your best burps & squiggles
that you have practised burping & squiggling enough so they
sound, like, good. Oh & NO MP3's!.."

ha ha..

aaaand Rephlex has this to say..

"demos:
*we receive many dozens of demos every week, perhaps dozens
every day! but on average we only release one record each
month. so please cooperate:
*if you don't follow these instructions then we know you're
not properly down with braindance! but if you do help us
listen to demos by complying with these guidelines, we will
inevitably give your demo priority:-
*please send us your demos for review on minidisc or cd. (we
prefer minidiscs because we can listen to them most
easily.)
*it is essential that you put your contact details on the
disc itself (not on the case or in a letter).
*a 3-5 word description of what we can expect to hear would
help us listen to your submission more effectively.
*due to limited time and resources, we instantly discard
packaging and accompanying letters and then rarely bother
with material that is not labeled on-body with contact
details - so save trees!
*cassettes, dat tapes are NOT really wanted unless it's all
you can manage.
*MP3's and website links are NOT wanted under any
circumstances.
*we do not have the resources to return demos - sorry.
*don't be disheartened if you don't hear back from us.
generally, you will only hear from us if we want to release
your tracks soon or if we think that we know someone who
might release them.
*in return for our precious time, we reserve the right to
subscribe your email address to our occasional electronic
mail-outs - you will be sent details of how to unsubscribe
if you want to tho'.
*thanks for keeping us entertained with the sounds from your
world."

i know nothing about music making, but you seem to have some
talent!

the only thing that i would change for my personal taste is
add some low frequency sounds (some bass or something).
this track sounds curiously like richard devine's stuff.

ive got no idea what label you should approach, but it would
definitely fit on schematic.

well, reading these advice things... it says to put the best
tracks first...

well, I was planning on sending them a finished version of
my pressed CD... so what I think ill do, is mark the best
ones to listen to/get an idea what they will be listening
to...

Thats a good idea zues, I think sending in just 3 to 5
tracks in not enough time to understand or get a feel of an
artist.

HA HA

did you type "Device" on purpose? thats a great name for
Tricky Dicky Devine..

I liked the track, but I agree with Cortex, get some lower
frequencies in there.. also I was thinking, either go over
the top (a la gantz graf) or give the listener like 30
seconds rest somewhere, maybe with ONLY low frequencies.. I
don't know..

also, I think you should pick the tracks yourself. to make
an educated choice I would have to have heard EVERYTHING
you've made.. and I haven't. its your demo, you should feel
good about it yourself.

and go ahead and send your stuff to Warp - they have lots
of..um.. melody-impaired music..

That was very interesting to hear you hold nothing back. I
think it's probably the best I've heard from you. It's
almost ootoo voon schorakk quality. It was amazing how it
kept changing. It would be difficult for me to think of
something to add or change to make it better (let alone
realize it). I only sent 1 demo to schematic. i kinda spent
a lot of time with fitting a drawing I made on the cover and
on the cd itself, and organizing the order of the tracks.
they did not reply (and probably wouldn't have) until I
emailed them. then they responded something like "we are
grateful to have recieved your madness. keep it up and good
things will happen." *shrugs

thanks..wMw:)Iyeah I feel quite good about the track..some
adjusting of levelsmay be in orderbut I wont change the
structure...
my second song is ready too..and is uploading as we
speak...that one is MAS oriented in the Funkstorung vein...

which songs did you send to schematic?..have I heard
them?...

dont know what to make of that reply by schematic though..it
could be taken as complimentary and or condescending...but
there's definetly room for working up and sending another in
that reply...

but the madness..bit..I am kinda worried about that..I dont
think my music is that far off from yours in madness
stakes..I cant imagine how these record label types are
gonna react to it...
