Cliffwood, New Jersey - Sept 24 2001 - Like something from the pages
of a science fiction novel, researchers at North American Products
(NAP) are claiming the largest scientific breakthrough in decades for the capture and reproduction of sound. It?s revolutionary core
technology known as H-CAT? has reached a new high and can successfully
generate holographic sound objects that appear to emanate from a
stable location in mid air as if real, solid, objects were creating
the sound. At a time when many blockbuster movies are number one for
just one weekend, NAP will make this technology available to movie
makers and promises to add a slice of reality to their craft that
until now was virtually impossible. The next generation of high tech
movies will seem more like a theme park ride with higher entertainment
value and more repeat viewers. With H-CAT?, all sound events seem to
happen locally, or in person, rather than via recorded or electronic
means. It provides an acoustic hologram or ?ghost like image? that
contains the same sound field data and velocity as the original. The
process has been described as "looking through a giant opening and
witnessing a live performance?. The hologram is delivered acoustically
to all audience members at the same time and does not require special
glasses, headphones or other gear. In a bold move aimed at jump-starting the use of this new technology, NAP is prepared to waive
licensing fees for H-CAT? in the ?Capture? mode. It will allow the use
of holographic soundtracks in one (1) motion picture for both Steven
Spielberg and George Lucas. H-CAT? is an analog interface and is
compatible with both Dolby Digital ® and THX®. NAP will have two
divisions, a Capture division responsible for managing and licensing
the cloning front end equipment used to capture sound events for audio
CD?s, television, radio, and motion picture soundtracks and a Playback
Products division which will manage the manufacture and distribution
of home, theater, and high power playbac

no, but the future may bring this technology to your television, in which case those mayo and mustard commercials will utilize the sound of crunching into a sandwich to make you wish you had one.
