If you want to buy La Mer, try and look for the version
released on Philips Classical label (464697-2) with Haitink
conducting.

Debussy is great, much better than the Drukqs pianostuff
IMO. It's also my first classical music purchase(actually,
there was some Ravel on the CDset as well, check him out
too)

People, I recommend you "Snowflakes are dancing" (middle
70s) by japanese synthesizer maestro: TOMITA. This album is
analog synthesizer versions of Debussy, and I've read this
one is a favorite from Chris Cunningham (when child) and
Björk. In the booklet of the Artificial Intelligence warp
CD, Richard James answer Tomita as one of his (early for
sure) influences.

Tomita also recorded works from Stravinsky, Mussorgsky and
(my favorite) Ravel ["Bolero" in USA, "Daphnis Et Chloe" in
JAP]

Sometimes I imagine how lovely would sound La Mer if mr.
Tomita were young again and had the energy and time to
record it.

Seems like Ravel made Daphnis Et Chloe specifically for
Tomita

ohdear, don't get me started on debussy:) i LOVE his music.
in fact there is only one piece of him that i don't like
(the piece for harp and string orch.). my favorite pieces
are probably jeux (for orchestra), prelude a l'apres midi
d'un faun (also for orch.) and images-book I (solo piano).
Wonderful music, and wonderful to play too:)

I'll second the Haitink recommendation - it's a really
fantasic double disc.

Oh, if you're in the mood for light drum and bass and some
house, don't forget to check "The Seduction of Claude
Debussy" by Art of Noise. A nice album dedicated to the work
and life of the french composer.
